Tiger Woods is setting ambitious goals for the 2024 PGA Tour season, eyeing a record-breaking 83rd title after showing promise in his recent comeback appearances.
The golf legend, who underwent ankle surgery and faced career-threatening injuries after a car crash in February 2021, returned to competitive play at the Hero World Challenge, finishing 18th. He then teamed up with his son Charlie for a tied-fifth finish at the PNC Championship.

Woods looks to a tournament a month
Having played only a few events since his injuries, Woods aims to participate in a tournament every month next season. Despite physical challenges, he remains confident in his abilities, emphasising the importance of practice, preparation, and endurance for a successful comeback.
Woods, now 47, expressed satisfaction with his recent performances, stating that the recovery from ankle surgery has allowed him to practise and compete. He acknowledged other areas of discomfort but emphasised his commitment to training and recovery, believing that knocking off rust and gaining confidence in consequential shots have been crucial aspects of his preparation.
Looking ahead, Woods is keen on participating in major tournaments, including the Masters and the PGA Championship, where he holds a lifetime exemption. However, his status for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst remains uncertain. While he does not currently qualify and his five-year exemption from winning the Masters in 2019 has expired, Woods is unsure about the process and whether he needs to seek a special exemption or go through qualifying.

Can Woods win another major? Few would dispute that he has the talent to do so, despite his injuries. However, the physical setbacks suffered over the last decade or so, plus the calibre of golfer he will have to overcome will make it difficult. Given that Woods’ participation in the US Open is uncertain, it was no surprise that, at the time of writing, he is not listed.
Bettors should be aware that while Woods is widely considered to be the greatest golfer of all time, a win in a major at this stage in his career will be a big ask. He could be worth an each-way punt given that his talent could carry him through and with his current odds there would be a big payout. However, it would more likely be money written off.
