  • End of Season for Dolphins’ Pass Rusher

Bradley Chubb, the prominent pass rusher for the Miami Dolphins, has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ending his season. This news was revealed on Monday by a source to Adam Schefter of ESPN, following the team’s 56-19 loss against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Chubb withdrawn at the end of final quarter

Chubb sustained a non-contact injury towards the end of the last quarter and was soon taken to the locker room. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The decision by coach Mike McDaniel to keep Chubb and other defensive starters on the field during such a decisive loss has sparked criticism among fans on social media. McDaniel, in his second year as coach, expressed regret about this decision when questioned, mentioning that if he had known the risk of injury, he would have acted differently. He explained that the players wanted to return to the field and finish properly, looking ahead to the next week.

Chubb, a three-time Pro Bowl player, led the Dolphins with 11 sacks this season. His role became even more vital following the injury of linebacker Jaelan Phillips. Behind him on defence are Andrew Van Ginkel, Melvin Ingram, and Emmanuel Ogbah. It’s important to note that Chubb has previously experienced a similar injury, having torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in 2019.

The Dolphins acquired Chubb from the Denver Broncos in exchange for a first-round pick at the last trade deadline, signing him to a five-year contract extension worth $110 million.

In addition to Chubb, cornerback Xavien Howard also left Sunday’s game with a foot injury, which the Ravens capitalised on, with quarterback Lamar Jackson throwing for 321 yards and five touchdowns. Howard suffered the injury in the first quarter and was taken to the locker room on a cart.

Howard, selected for the 2022 Pro Bowl, has played in 13 of the team’s 17 games this season, recording 45 tackles, 12 defended passes, and one interception. McDaniel indicated that the team is still uncertain about Howard’s injury diagnosis.

Betting Implications

The recent injuries to key players like Bradley Chubb and Xavien Howard on the Miami Dolphins have significant implications for the world of NFL betting. These absences could significantly affect the betting lines in the Dolphins’ upcoming games, especially in the team’s defence. For future bettors, it’s essential to consider the impact of these injuries on Miami’s defensive effectiveness. Bettors are advised to stay informed about injury reports and team lineup adjustments before placing NFL bets. Additionally, it may be prudent to explore betting in alternative markets, such as total points or individual performances, where the consequences of these injuries could create valuable opportunities.
