Alexander-Arnold faces three weeks out
  • Alexander-Arnold suffers knee injury
  • Lateral ligament tear for LIverpool defender
  • Estimated three weeks out for Trent as Liverpool face crucial matches

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be sidelined for approximately three weeks due to a knee injury, as confirmed by assistant manager Pep Ljinders. The 25-year-old England international sustained the injury during Liverpool’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory against Arsenal.

Liverpool poised for crucial fixtures during Alexander-Arnold’s absence

Ljinders revealed that Alexander-Arnold hyperextended his knee, resulting in a tear in the lateral ligament, as diagnosed through a scan. The assistant manager expressed the team’s disappointment, acknowledging the significant impact the player had on their game. Alexander-Arnold’s ability to provide flexibility and create opportunities, particularly during challenging moments, will be sorely missed.

The upcoming weeks will pose a challenge for Liverpool as they navigate crucial fixtures. Currently leading the Premier League, they face Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, followed by a Premier League encounter against Bournemouth. The team will also contend with the second leg against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, an FA Cup fourth-round match against Norwich or Bristol Rovers, and a league clash with Chelsea on January 31.

Ljinders emphasised the need for the team to find new dynamics without Alexander-Arnold and expressed hope for his swift recovery, recognizing his decisive contributions in previous matches. Liverpool will now have to adapt to the absence of the influential defender and strive to maintain their strong position in various competitions.

Betting Implications

Liverpool are competing strongly on four fronts this season, however, the start of 2024 promises to be a real test of their mettle. Mo Salah is set to miss a number of crucial matches due to the African Cup of Nations and now Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to be without Alexander-Arnold for a three week period. Bettors need to analyse how much these absences will affect Liverpool before making their picks on individual matches and outrights. With Manchester City returning to form it is critical that they keep on picking up results in the Premier League.
