There is an awful lot to ponder when looking through the best Nations League betting sites. It can be overwhelming trying to analyse everything from safety and customer service to promotions and welcome offers.

Sam Cox: In my opinion, the leading Nations League online betting sites need to be very user-friendly. I prioritise websites and apps which are both reliable and quick-to-load. A smooth in-play betting feature is important, too, while accumulator bonuses are especially valuable given the scheduling of the competition.

How to choose the best site for you

While we have put in some of the background research to decide on the best Nations League betting sites in the UK, it is also useful for punters to look around for themselves before making a final decision. There are elements of choosing a bookmaker which are subjective.

To help with your research, here are seven factors to bear in mind:

  1. Licences always matter: Safety is crucial when it comes to betting. Guarantee you are wagering at a secure and trusted bookie by looking up their licences.
  2. Read up on welcome offer: Welcome offers can be a great launchpad when joining a new bookmaker. Have a look at their terms to be sure their offer is applicable to your betting habits and stakes.
  3. Look up Nations League odds: Is there a specific market you’re after? Do you want odds available way in advance? Check a bookie’s Nations League odds before signing up.
  4. Learn about payment methods: You want your deposits and withdrawals to be processed quickly without hidden fees. See how many payment methods are available.
  5. Reputation matters: Bookmakers earn their reputation. What others think about the experience at a bookie can tell you a lot about if it is worth registering. Reviews are easily accessible on the internet.
  6. Download the app: Whether it’s about betting on the go or live streaming during your commute, having the app is useful. Head to the app store on your preferred device and see what you think of the mobile experience.
  7. Sign up process: If you think you’ve settled on the right bookie for you, it’s time to start the sign-up process. Get an understanding for what it’s like to be a regular punter and evaluate if this is your favoured bookie.

Betting on Nations League explained

The Nations League is a new competition. It is spread over a long period with sizeable gaps between the batches of fixtures, which can make it difficult for bettors to follow the competition. Fans have still been generally receptive to this new endeavour from UEFA, however, and plenty have been spending time on the best Nations League betting sites.

Odds

Nations League odds are available ahead of the matches taking place. Outright markets go up a long way in advance, and you can also bet on group winners, relegation and top scorers.

Picks

Making Nations League picks can be a bit more challenging than other football predictions. You need to look into how seriously a nation is taking the competition and which players have made the squad.

Types of Nations League bets

Any regular football bettor will be familiar with the types of Nations League bets. The markets are the same as you would find for the Premier League, World Cup or Champions League.

Match winner

The most common market in Nations League betting is simply betting on the winner of the match.

Total goals

Bookmakers will set a line for the total number of goals in a Nations League match. You then bet on the ‘over’ or ‘under’.

Player props

Player props vary considerably. The best Nations League betting sites will offer props on goals, shots, tackles, clean sheets and more.

Cards

Cards markets can cover the number of cards in a match, the cards shown to a team or player-focused card bets.

Nations League betting strategies

You want to set aside a few hours to figure out a Nations League betting strategy, which you can then tweak through trial-and-error. Sites like Who Scored and FB Reference are helpful for your research into statistics and form. It is handy to look into the squads selected. Quotes from managers can give an indication of how committed they are to the competition.

Get to know more about Nations League to bet smarter

The concept of the Nations League dates back to 2013, when it was first announced that UEFA wanted to add another major competition. Only in 2018 did it become reality.

The intention was to replace meaningless friendlies with more competitive matches against teams of a similar level. Teams are split across Leagues A, B, C and D, with 16 in the first three and seven in D in the current format. Those leagues are then broken into groups of four (apart from one group of three in League D).

The group winners in League A progress to the playoffs. There is also promotion and relegation between the leagues. Teams at the bottom of their groups in A, B and C are relegated, while group winners in B, C and D are promoted.

Through three editions of the tournament, nine different teams have reached the playoffs.
