2024 Grand National line-up confirmed
The anticipation mounts as the Randox Grand National at Aintree approaches, promising a thrilling display of horsemanship and competition. On Thursday the 34 horses who will contest the famous event were confirmed.
Last year’s victor, Corach Rambler, trained by Lucinda Russell, stands poised to etch his name alongside legendary winners like Red Rum and Tiger Roll, aiming for a remarkable back-to-back triumph in the renowned steeplechase event.
The 4-mile, 2½-furlong contest boasts a formidable lineup, with Irish champion trainer Willie Mullins fielding a potent squad in pursuit of his first National triumph since Hedgehunter’s victory in 2005. Among Mullins’ contenders are I Am Maximus, the victor of last year’s Irish National, and Meetingofthewaters, a dual winner this season, offering formidable prospects under the guidance of jockeys Paul Townend and Danny Mullins, respectively.
Adding to the excitement, Gordon Elliott, a three-time Grand National winner, presents a strong contingent of eight contenders, led by Delta Work, who clinched third place two years ago. Notable returnees include Noble Yeats, seeking redemption, and a talented ensemble including Galvin, Coko Beach, and Farouk D’Alene, among others.
Gavin Cromwell’s Vanillier, aiming to reverse last year’s outcome, and the promising Paddy Power Mares’ Chase victor Limerick Lace contribute to an eclectic mix of challengers, showcasing the depth of talent in the field.
Domestic hopes are buoyed by Scottish National winner Kitty’s Light, Welsh National champion Nassalam, and Grade 2 victor Galia Des Liteaux, ensuring a robust representation of British-trained contenders.
Noteworthy mentions go to Martin Brassil’s Panda Boy and John McConnell’s Mahler Mission, both attracting considerable attention in the betting market following impressive performances in recent outings.
Henry de Bromhead’s trio of Minella Indo, Ain’t That A Shame, and Eklat De Rire, along with other contenders like Foxy Jacks and Roi Mage, round out the formidable assembly of challengers set to vie for glory.
With the race set to unfold in front of a captivated audience, televised live on ITV and Racing TV, anticipation reaches fever pitch as fans eagerly await the spectacle that is the Randox Grand National.
