Liverpool host Saints in FA Cup Fifth Round

Liverpool, who after winning the EFL Cup on Sunday, are still in contention for three more trophies this season, take on promotion chasing Southampton at Anfield.

Southampton

After a long unbeaten run propelled them into the thick of the promotion race, Championship side Southampton, looking for an immediate return to the top flight, have stuttered somewhat in recent weeks. The Saints lost at home to Millwall on Saturday and are now five points adrift of the automatic promotion places. Southampton strolled past Walsall in the third round before beating Watford in round four after a replay. It will be interesting to see what sort of side they put out at Anfield, as staying in the promotion race will surely be the main priority this season..

Liverpool

Liverpool travelled to fellow Premier League title chasers Arsenal in the third round and came away with the win before comfortably seeing off Championship outfit Norwich City at Anfield in the fourth round. As Jurgen Klopp tries to manage his injury-hit squad some younger players and fringe players may get a chance against the Saints. A number of youngsters featured on Sunday in the EFL Cup FInal. The Reds needed extra time to see off Chelsea, with Virgil van Dijk heading a dramatic late winner.

Prediction

Both sides may rotate but all things being equal Liverpool should be too strong for Southampton. Home win.
