Wigan favourites but St Helen’s looking to get back to winning ways
After topping the table and going on to win the Grand Final in 2023, Wigan Warriors are looking like the team to beat again in the Super League this year.
They have strengthened in the close season, with former Leeds Rhinos skipper Kruise Leeming among the new recruits. A 40-0 victory over Hull FC in a pre-season friendly match last week will send Wigan into the season in confident mood.
However, there are a lot of quality teams in the league and WIgan will be pushed all of the way in their quest for another title. St Helens will be gunning for revenge after their run of four consecutive titles was brought to an end. Leeds Rhinos have had an excellent pre-season and Challenge Cup winners Leigh Leopards will be hoping to usurp more fancied teams to get into the play offs. Warrington Wolves, now under the stewardship of new coach Sam Burgess, are aiming to challenge for the title. Hull KR surprised a few teams last season and they will look to challenge again this time round.
As far as the battle to stay up is concerned, early predictions are suggesting a tough season for Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, Salford Red Devils and Castleford Tigers. Newly promoted London Broncos are predicted to struggle too.
Who are the favourites to win the Super League?
We have done a quick run down on each team and have included their odds for the regular season and their odds to win the Grand Final from Betfred.
Wigan Warriors
The defending champions are 6/4 favourites to finish top of the table and win for a second successive year. Wigan are priced at 2/1 to go on to win the Grand Final and retain their title.
St Helens
Third last year, Saints are 3/1 second favourites for the league leaders’ shield and are the same price to win the title. Last season a play off defeat to Catalans ended an era of domination for Saints where they won four consecutive Super League titles and two League Leaders Shields. During this period they also won the 2021 Challenge Cup. Last season started well, with a win in the World Club Challenge game against Penrith. They then finished third on the table equal on points with league leaders Wigan and the Catalans Dragons before losing to the Dragons, the eventual runners-up in the play-offs.
Leeds Rhinos
Rhinos finished eighth last year, but they have been busy in the transfer market but are third-favourites for top spot, at 7/1 and are 15/2 to win the Grand Final and take the title.
Warrington Wolves
Warrington are another team tipped to be there or thereabouts. Warrington are 15/2 to win the League Leader’s Shield and are 8/1 tto be Super League Champions
Catalans Dragons
Second last year, but 11/1 fifth favourites for the 2024 league leaders’ shield. Dragons are, 10/1 go one better than last season and take the title,
Leigh Leopards
The Challenge Cup holders are 16/1 to top the Super League table and are the same price to lift the trophy.
Hull KR
Fourth last time, but 16/1 to lift the league leaders’ shield and are 12/1 to win the Super League title.
Huddersfield Giants
Giant outsiders for top spot, at 25/1 and are 18/1 to win the Super League.
Hull FC
It could be another long year for the black and whites. They are 33/1 to finish top.
Salford Red Devils
A 50/1 long shot to finish top of the pile.
Castleford Tigers
Second from bottom last year and, despite a change of coach, are predicted to struggle this season. 66/1 to top the table at the end of the regular season.
London Broncos
Promotion last year was unexpected and they are favourites for the wooden spoon. 150/1 for first place.

Prediction
St Helens will be keen to prove that last season was a blip and resume their period of dominance. However, Wigan Warriors are a genuinely good side. They were the most consistent team last season, winning the League Leaders Shield and then showed that they have the big game mentality by negotiating the playoffs and winning the Grand Final. We think that they will come out on top again, in the regular season and in the Grand Final.
We think that St Helens, Warrington Wolves, Leeds Rhinos, Catalans Dragons and Hull KR will make up the playoff places. At the other end of the table we think that London Broncos will struggle after promotion and finish bottom of the pile.
