Poland – Euro 2024 Overview

Poland’s football history has been marked by several outstanding players and successful periods. During the 1970s and 1980s, Poland were a significant force in international football, with highlights such as the 1972 Olympic gold and a third-place finish in the 1974 and 1982 World Cups. Some of the most prominent players include Grzegorz Lato, who won the Golden Boot for most goals in the 1974 World Cup , as well as Zbigniew Boniek and Kazimierz Deyna, both of whom were central figures during the same period.

In the last 10-15 years, it is above all one player who has stood out in the Polish national team, the superstar Robert Lewandowski. “Lewan” has received numerous individual awards such as FIFA player of the year, best player in the Bundesliga and the Gerd Müller Trophy.

Whether there will be a new Lewandowski remains to be seen, but if you look at promising footballers from Poland, there are a couple of interesting names where Roma’s Nicola Zalewski stands out.

In Group D , you are pitted against the Netherlands , France and Austria. In a tough group, France are the clear favourites ahead of the Netherlands, while Austria and Poland are expected to compete for third place, which could bring a place in the Round of 16.

How Poland qualified for Euro 2024

Poland made it to the European Championship finals in Germany via the Nations League qualifier where they first faced Estonia. Here, Poland had a comprehensive 5-1 win. The final was against Wales and `proved to be tougher. Goalless throughout the 90 minutes and in extra time meant that the match went to penalties. This eventially saw Poland prevail.

Poland Euro 2024 Squad

Euro 2024 will be Poland boss Michał Probierz’s first major championship. His team needed to negotiate the playoffs to seal qualification after finishing behind Albania and the Czech Republic, in a grpup from which they may have expected to qualify automatically.

Several of the players from the 2022 World Cup are still in the Euro 2024 squad. The Polish team consists of a mix of experienced people such as Robert Lewandowski, Wojciech Szczęsny, Bartosz Bereszyński and Piotr Zieliński and some promising young players in Nicola Zalewski and Jakub Moder.

In qualification, the Poles’ attack looked at little blunt. On paper they appear weaker than France, Netherlands and Austria. However, Poland will travel to Germany hoping to get out of the group and have a crack at the knockout stages.

Has averaged well over 0.5 goals per game during his time in the national team and his record in club football is also outstanding. • Piotr Zielinski – Napoli’s midfield star Piotr Zielinskiis a skillful, inventive player who regularly creates goalscoring chances, making him a vital link between midfield and attack. He made his internationak debut as a 19-year-old in 2013 and since then he has been a regular, clocking up close to 90 appearances for his country.
  • Wojciech Szczesny – Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny is an experienced campaigner who has been aming the best goalkeepers in Europe for a number of years. Szczęsny is known for his leadership on the pitch and his ability to organise the defence. His composure under pressure and ability to handle high balls make him an important asset for club and country.

Poland Odds at Euro 2024

The bookmakers are offering fairly high odds on Poland progressing. For example, bet365 are currently pricing the Poles at 5/4 to qualify and 4/7 not to qualify. They are 10/1 to win the group and 150/1 to win the tournament. This is a fair assessment. This is not a vintage Poland side and if they do qualify we feel it will be as one of the best third placed sides.
