Wilder claims Joshua is reluctant to face him
  • 2024 bout between Wilder and Joshua could happen
  • Wilder claims Brit Joshua lacks the courage to face him
  • Wilder to take on Parker while Joshua faces Wallin

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are gearing up for a potential showdown, and Wilder believes that Joshua may not possess the courage to face him, citing a perceived 75% reluctance. The former heavyweight champions, both on the comeback trail after recent losses, share the bill in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, with the possibility of a 2024 bout looming if they both emerge victorious.

Wilder sceptical over Joshua’s intention to make bout happen

Wilder, known for his formidable punching power and ability to KO opponents, remains hopeful about stepping into the ring with Joshua, despite expressing scepticism about his opponent’s intentions. “Nothing is for sure until it’s for sure,” Wilder remarked, emphasising the uncertainties in the world of boxing.

Joshua, a two-time world champion, voiced his enthusiasm for a potential bout with Wilder but hinted at a preference for challenging for the IBF title first. The British boxer faces Sweden’s Otto Wallin on the Saudi Arabia card, while Wilder takes on former champion Joseph Parker.

The delay in a Wilder-Joshua matchup has puzzled fans, with Wilder attributing it to factors beyond money, pointing fingers at Joshua’s handlers, promotion, and management for lacking the heart and courage to make the fight happen.

As both fighters eye a return to the summit of the heavyweight division, the potential scenarios for Joshua include a clash with Wilder or a shot at the IBF title against Filip Hrgovic. The latter scenario hinges on the outcome of the Usyk vs. Fury bout and the activation of a potential rematch clause.

Despite the apparent differences and tensions, Wilder remains optimistic, stating that talks are closer than ever. Both fighters are determined to reclaim their former glory, and the outcome of their upcoming fights could significantly shape the trajectory of their paths, with a potential Wilder vs. Joshua clash on the horizon in 2024.

Betting Implications

Both men are favourites to win this weekend in Saudi Arabia. At the time of writing, SpreadEx have WIlder at 1/6 to win with Parker 17/4 and a draw 22/1. As for Joshua they currently have the Watford fighter priced at 1/4, with Wallin at 3/1 and a draw 18/1.

As far as a future bout between Wilder and Joshua is concerned, Wilder is currently considered the favourite. Bettors need to monitor the performance of both fighters this weekend to determine whether they back them or not in 2024.
