Newcastle United and Manchester United meet at Wembley for the EFL Cup final, on Sunday February 26. In the semi-finals Newcastle overcame Southampton 3-1 over the two legs while Man Utd swept aside Nottingham Forest 5-0 on aggregate.
Newcastle are aiming to win their first trophy since 1969 and their first domestic trophy since 1955. They have enjoyed a great season so far, with the team making fantastic progress under Eddie Howe. Bruno Guimarães will be available again after suspension. Nick Pope, excellent throughout the season, misses out through suspension. He will be replaced in goal by Loris Karius or Mark Gillespie. Midfielders Joe Willock and Joelinton are hoping to shake off thigh problems.
For Manchester United the final is yet another big game, coming hot on the heels of their Europa League clash with Barcelona, where they prevailed after a pulsating encounter. The Red Devils have also made great progress this season, with Erik ten Hag’s side fighting on four fronts. They will be without long-term injury victims Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek. Anthony Martial is unlikely to be fit. They are also sweating on the fitness of key man Marcus Rashford after the Barcelona game.
