Favourites Liverpool host West Ham

Liverpool have won the EFL Cup a record nine times, four of which came in consecutive years in their 1980s heyday. Their 1981 triumph saw them overcome their 2023/24 quarter-final opponents West Ham after a replay, one of two occasions that the Hammers have made the final. Liverpool

Liverpool dropped to second in the Premier League after being held to a draw by Manchester United on Sunday. With a top of the table clash with Arsenal to come at the weekend, Jurgen Klopp may opt to rotate his side.

Ryan Gravenberch is likely to miss out for Liverpool, after Klopp confirmed the midfielder picked up a hamstring injury against Man United. Harvey Elliott could come into the starting XI after impressing off the bench in recent weeks.

West Ham United

West Ham bounced back from a heavy defeat to Fulham with a resounding win over Wolves to keep in the hunt for a European place. David Moyes is expected to name a strong side. Michail Antonio, who is likely to be out for another couple of weeks is the only injury concern.

Prediction

West Ham are a good side who are capable of causing anyone problems. Should Klopp shuffle his pack, Liverpool may take time to find their rhythm but I think that they will have too much for West Ham. After a frustrating game against Man United where they couldn’t find the net I expect them to make ammends here. Home win.
