Darts has gone from being a pub game to one of the biggest sports in the UK and Ireland, as well as in other European countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
As the game has grown, so too has the popularity of darts betting. And it’s really easy to bet on darts once you know how.
Darts betting can be split into two categories:
Match
Outright
Match betting
Match betting covers everything that you can bet on during a darts match, with bets placed either pre-match (before it starts) or in-play (once it’s started).
There are lots of match betting markets for each darts match, with some of the most popular ones including:
Match Odds
Total 180s
Most 180s
To Win Leg 1
To Win Leg 2
Outright Betting
Outright betting covers everything that you can bet on over the course of a darts competition, with the most popular one being:
Competition winner
You can also back players on an each-way basis, which is typically either two or four places depending on the tournament. That means you could win either 1/2 and 1/4 odds if the player reaches the final or semi-final.
Best Bookmakers to Bet on Darts
The best bookmakers to bet on darts are generally the ones that offer generous sign-up bonuses to encourage new customers to bet with them.
And with so many betting sites to choose from, it’s worth looking on betting.com to help you find the best one for you.
We only work with reputable betting sites that value their customers and our reviews are always honest, reliable and trustworthy.

PDC World Championship
The World Championship is the biggest, most prestigious and most lucrative darts tournament. It takes place between December and January every year and has been held at the iconic Alexandra Palace in London since 2008.
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor has won the World Championship a record 14 times, including eight in a row between 1995 and 2002. Michael van Gerwen is second on the list with three titles.
UK Open
The UK Open is known as the “FA Cup of Darts” because there is no protection for seeded players. It takes place in March every year and has been held at Butlins Minehead Resort since 2014.
Phil Taylor has won the UK Open a record five times, with James Wade and Michael van Gerwen second on the list with three titles each.
World Match Play
The World Match Play is one of darts’ Triple Crown events, along with the World Championship and Premier League Darts. It is played in a legs format, rather than sets, meaning there are often shock results..
Held in July, the World Match Play has been played at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool since 1994, making it the PDC’s longest-serving venue.
Phil Taylor has won the World Match Play a record 16 times, with Michael van Gerwen second on the list with three titles.
World Grand Prix
The World Grand Prix is the only televised event where players must start and end each leg on a double. It takes place every October and is traditionally held in Ireland.
Phil Taylor has won the World Grand Prix a record 11 times, with Michael van Gerwen second on the list with five titles.
Grand Slam of Darts
The Grand Slam of Darts is a tournament that features the champions and runners-up from major PDC tournaments. It also used to include the best-performing players from its rival, the British Darts Organisation.
The Grand Slam of Darts takes place in November every year and has been held in Aldersley since 2018.
Phil Taylor has won the Grand Slam of Darts a record six times, with Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price second on the list with three titles.
Premier League Darts
The Premier League Darts is, along with the World Championship and World Match Play, one of darts’ Triple Crown events. It is played weekly from February to May and sees eight PDC players competing in a knockout style format.
The Premier League Darts is held at venues all over the UK, as well as European countries such as Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany.

Live Betting on Darts

In-play betting is when you bet on the match in real time, meaning the live odds change as the action unfolds.
Regular darts betting markets are still available in-play, but there are also specific markets that are unique to in-play betting, including popular ones such as:

How Are Darts Betting Odds Calculated?
Darts betting odds are calculated on the probability of something happening.
For example, the odds of Michael van Gerwen winning the PDC World Championship are much shorter than the odds of Raymond van Barneveld. That’s because the probability of Michael van Gerwen winning the PDC World Championship is much higher.
If Michael van Gerwen wins the PDC World Championship after you placed a £10 bet on him to do so 4/1, you would win £40. But if Raymond van Barneveld wins the PDC World Championship after you placed a £10 bet on him to do so at 300/1, you would win £3,000.
The odds for someone like Van Gerwen to win are often short, so one way of increasing the odds is through accumulator betting.
More commonly referred to as an ‘acca’, accumulator betting is when you bet on two or more darts matches but combine them into one bet.
Because the odds are multiplied, you’ll win an enhanced amount if all the selections in your acca are correct.
