England look to bounce back against Bangladesh

Defending champions England got off to a disappointing start as they suffered a nine wicket loss against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Kiwi’s, beaten by England in the 2019 World Cup final,  were convincing winners after being beaten in a One Day International series by England in the run up to the tournament.

Batting first, England put on a modest total of 282 for nine. New Zealand were to lose only one wicket as they chase the total down and needed only 36.2 overs to hit the target, with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra making centuries.

England beat Bangladesh by four wickets in their World Cup warm up match last Monday. They will need a repeat of this to get their tournament back on track.

England squad:

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

Bangladesh suffered a comprehensive ODI series defeat to New Zealand prior to the tournament. They defeated Sri Lanka in a warm up fixture before losing their final preparation match to England. They will head into the match against the holders as underdogs.

Bangladesh Squad:

Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehedi Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan, Tanzid Hasan, Mahmudullah

Despite the defeat to New Zealand, England remain strong favourites. Bangladesh are a capable side but at we feel that England will run out comfortable winners.
