England playing for pride as Australia target semi-final spot

Australia need the points as they look towards securing a spot in the last four, while England, who have made a hugely disappointing defence of the trophy will still be motivated to put in a performance against the old enemy.

England

England are playing for pride after enduring a miserable World Cup campaign. With so many different formats of cricket around at the moment, it is felt that the 2019 champions did not play enough 50-over matches in the build up, and paid the price.

England squad:

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

Australia

The Aussies are right in the mix for a semi-final spot and will not want traditional rivals England to put a spanner in the works. England vs Australia is always a big game, but securing a passage to the last four is even more important to Australia. Glenn Maxwell will miss out against England after a fall from a golf buggy on a day off left him with concussion.

Australia squad:

Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

Prediction

England will be desperate to come out of the tournament with something positive to cling to, however, while they may well be competitive, it is difficult to see them getting one over on the Aussies. Australia to win.
