Outsiders Finland ended Canada’s Davis Cup defence at the quarter-final stage, staging a comeback to win 2-1 and secure a spot in the last four in Malaga, Spain.

Both number ones on sidelines as Finland shock Canada
Milos Raonic, in his first Davis Cup appearance in five years, initially put Canada ahead with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Patrick Kaukovalta. However, Otto Virtanen levelled the score for Finland by defeating Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 7-5. In the decisive doubles match, Virtanen and Harri Heliovaara secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alexis Galarneau and Vasek Pospisil, earning Finland a historic semi-final berth.
Canada faced setbacks with top-ranked player Felix Auger-Aliassime sidelined due to a “lower body” issue, while Finnish number one Emil Ruusuvuori was also absent due to injury.
Finland will face either Australia, last year’s runners-up, or the Czech Republic in the semi-finals. The Australia-Czech Republic match is scheduled for Wednesday, and Italy will meet the Netherlands on Thursday.
Great Britain’s Davis Cup journey begins on Thursday as they take on Serbia, led by Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-finals at 15:00 GMT. The quarter-finals will be followed by the semi-finals on Friday and Saturday, leading up to the crowning of the men’s team event champions on Sunday.
