Coco Gauff, the US Open champion, demonstrated her formidable form at the WTA Finals, dispatching Ons Jabeur in just 57 minutes in her tournament opener. The third-seeded American surged ahead, claiming the first seven games before a brief rain delay halted play in Cancun, Mexico.
Following the resumption, Gauff swiftly closed out the match with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-1, securing her 50th win of the season.
In another captivating encounter from Group B, Iga Swiatek demonstrated her resilience by overcoming a 5-2 deficit in the opening set against Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. The Pole, who is aiming to regain her world number one ranking from Aryna Sabalenka, clinched a hard-fought first set in a tiebreak (7-6, 7-3) before surging to a dominant 6-0 victory in the second set.
Although Vondrousova, making her debut at the season-ending Finals, twice served for the first set, Swiatek took command of the match, leaving her opponent unable to mount a response.
