Germany, England, Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal are the teams deemed most likely by the bookies to make the Round of 16. The same nations, ahead of Italy and the Netherlands, make up the favourites to progress from the Round of 16 into the quarter-finals. Albania have the highest odds on making the knockout stages, which, given that they have been drawn in a group against Spain, Italy and Croatia, is hardly surprising. The Czech Republic will be touch and go, with bet365 offering the same odds as them qualifying as not qualifying, both 5/6, at the time of writing. Scotland are rated as having a relalistic chance of progress.

The knockout stages of the Euros start on June 29 when the first Round of 16 matches are played, with the final games of the round due to be completed on July 2. The schedule is as follows:

The first round of 16 match is played at the Olympic Stadium in the capital Berlin and is between the runners-up in groups A and B. It is not entirely impossible that we will see a real highlight in the form of Germany against Spain, Croatia or Italy, but that would mean that the host nation had failed to win Group A.
The EC round of 16 ends on July 2 with matches in Munich and Leipzig.

Croatia – Spain 3-5 after extra-time
France – Switzerland Switzerland won 4-5 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
England – Germany 2-0
Sweden – Ukraine 1-2 after extra-time
In Euro 2020, half of the round of 16 matches went to extra time, one of which went all the way to penalties. Italy defeated Austria 2-1 after 0-0 at full time.
Between Croatia and Spain, the crowd in Parken, Copenhagen saw a total of eight goals, two of which came in extra time. In a swinging and entertaining match, the result was 3-3 after 90 minutes plus stoppage time with Croatia’s Mario Pašalić equalizing in the 92nd minute. In extra time the Spaniards scored twice in the forst period of extra-time to take the win.
The only match that had to be decided on penalties was the one in Bucharest between neighboring countries France and Switzerland. Like Croatia – Spain, this was 3-3 at full time. But unlike the match in the Park, no goals were scored during extra time. It went to penalties where the Swiss prevailed after Kylian Mbappé missed the decisive kick.
Sweden and Ukraine also ended level, with Ukraine going through after extra-time. Denmark beat Wales 4-0 and the Czech Republic somewhat surprisingly scored a 2-0 win over the Netherlands. In Seville, just over 11,500 saw Portugal, the reigning European champions go out against Belgium, while at Wembley, England defeated Germany 2-0.
Euro 2020 Round of 16 Facts
The Round of 16 at Euro 2020 gave us the following facts:
- Five from eight games ended goalless after 90 minutes.
- The scoring average during the regular 90 minutesin the round of 16 was 2.875. Above all, it was the matches Croatia – Spain and France – Switzerland, where there were six goals each, that raised the average.
- Onky one of the eight matches, Italy v Austria, ended goalless after 90 minutes.
- Despite a high total of goals overall, only three of the eight matches exceeded 2.5 goals in the 90 minutes.
