Vital clash as Spurs push for Europe and Arsenal fight for title

As ever local pride and bragging rights are at stake in the North London derby, however Tottenham Hotspur are desperate for points in their quest for Champions League football and Arsenal are locked in a fascinating title race. The reverse fixture this season at the Emirates ended in a 2-2 draw.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham are six points behind Aston Villa, with two games in hand, in the race for fourth place and Champions League football. Spurs have lacked consistency in the last month or so, and will need to be at their best against their derby rivals.

In the midst of a busy campaign, Manchester City’s continued involvement in the FA Cup has granted Tottenham an unusual two-week break leading up to Sunday’s North London derby. However, their recent performance against Newcastle United, where they suffered a demoralizing 4-0 defeat, has put a dent in their hopes for a top-four finish. Meanwhile, their Champions League-chasing rivals, Aston Villa, have capitalised on Spurs’ slip-up with consecutive wins, extending their lead by six points. With crucial matches against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City still on the horizon, Tottenham must avoid further poor performances to secure a spot in Europe’s elite competition next season. The absence of Harry Kane, who is currently competing for Champions League glory with Bayern Munich, places added pressure on Son Heung-min, the sole remaining North London derby hero for Spurs. Son’s impressive track record against Arsenal, including six goals and two assists, underscores his importance ahead of Sunday’s pivotal clash.

Destiny Udogie is out for the rest of the season due to a quad injury sustained during the loss at Newcastle. Fraser Forster (foot), Manor Solomon (knee) and Ryan Sessegnon (thigh) are also out for the remainder of the campaign.

Pedro Porri is doubtful and Richarlison is fit to return after knee problems.

Arsenal

After losing ground in the title race with a home defeat to Aston Villa, Arsenal have bounced back with wins over Wolves and Chelsea. The Gunners lead the table by a point from title favourites Manchester City, however, Mikel Arteta’s side have played a game more than the Citizens. Given City’s incredible consistency, Arsenal can’t really afford to drop any more points. A trip to Spurs has proved difficult for most sides this season and, while a draw in such a fixture would often be viewed as a point gained, the situation with the title run-in means that anything other than a win will be seen as a disappointment for Arsenal.

There are no injury problems, therefore Arteta should have a full squad to pick from.

Prediction

We are expecting a close, competitive match with a lot at stake for both sides, including local pride. We feel that Arsenal will stand firm an come away with the three points. Spurs will fly at Arsenal and if the Gunners weather the storm they are likely to expose Tottenham’s high defensive line. Away win.
