Toffolo Charged by FA
Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has been charged by the Football Association for breaching its betting rules. It is alleged that Toffolo was in breach of FA rule E8 between January 2014 and March 2017 when he was with Norwich City. The 27-year old is charged with breaching the rule 375 times.
Toffolo was contracted to Norwich but had several loan spells during the period in question, at Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Peterborough United and Scunthorpe United. He made 19 appearances for Forest in the Premier League last season after joining the club from Huddersfield Town.
Players prohibited from betting on games by Rule E8
The news follows hot on the heels of Brentford striker Ivan Toney being suspended after admitting to 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules. Toney was initially charged in November 2022.
Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier, then with Atlético Madrid, was found guilty in December 2020 of violating it and was banned from all football-related activity for 10 weeks, also being fined £70,000.
Rule E8 prohibits players from betting on games, asking others to do so on their behalf or sharing privileged information for betting purposes.
Toffolo has until 19 July to respond to the charge.
