Star Sports to sponsor Toomey for 2024 flat season
Star Sports has proudly announced its sponsorship of racehorse trainer Brian Toomey for the upcoming 2024 flat season. The decision comes as a testament to Toomey’s remarkable journey and burgeoning career as a trainer.
Hailed by the British bookmaker for his impressive portfolio of high-profile owners, including Amo Racing, Clipper Logistics, Jimmy Fyffe, and Jeff Smith, Toomey’s ascent in the racing world has been nothing short of inspiring. Notably, his first victory as a trainer came courtesy of Wake Up Harry at Kempton on December 20th, with a boost from none other than Harry Redknapp.
Luke Tarr, Head of PR at Star Sports, expressed admiration for Toomey’s resilience, stating, “Brian’s story is truly inspirational. To achieve what he has, both in his recovery from such a serious head injury and in his determined pursuit of a trainer’s licence, shows exactly what he is made of, and we are delighted to sponsor the yard.”
Having retired as a jockey following a severe fall at Perth in 2013, the 34-year-old Toomey now stands at the threshold of his first full season as a trainer, operating from Bowstridge Farm in Chalfont St Giles. Star Sports intends to collaborate closely with Toomey, offering regular updates on his stable’s runners, insights into major races and meetings during the Flat season, and engaging video content reflecting on his journey from jockey to trainer.
“We’re excited to produce some top-quality content with Brian at the beginning of what we’re sure will be a very successful training career,” Tarr added.
Toomey expresses gratitude
Toomey’s sponsorship by Star Sports places him alongside esteemed figures such as leading jockey Harry Skelton, who joined the operator in October 2023, and recently retired legendary rider Davy Russell in the company’s stable of racing ambassadors.
Reflecting on his new venture, Toomey expressed gratitude for the support he has received, saying, “Becoming a trainer has been a dream for a long time. My story is an unusual one, and I know how lucky I am to be here.”
With the backing of prominent owners, a supportive training environment, and now sponsorship from Star Sports, Brian Toomey’s journey as a trainer promises to be one to watch. His updates and insights throughout the flat season are sure to captivate racing enthusiasts.
