Shishkin and Constitution Hill both entered at Newcastle
  • Henderson could give star pair a run at Newcastle
  • Both horses are current ante-post favourites
  • Cold snap forecast but clerk of course positive over ground conditions

Nicky Henderson is contemplating the participation of two of his star horses, Shishkin and Constitution Hill, in Saturday’s races at Newcastle. Check out Betting.com’s top list of horse racing betting sites before making your picks.

Shishkin now entered for Rehearsal Chase as Constitution Hill looks to extend winning run in Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Shishkin, a six-time Grade 1 winner, had opted out of his intended return at Ascot, prompting Henderson to reassess his plans. Shishkin is now entered for the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle, marking his first foray into handicap racing on his 19th career start. Despite having to give significant weight to rivals, this presents an opportunity for Shishkin to bounce back.

Constitution Hill, undefeated under rules in seven races, is gearing up for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle. The horse, victorious by 12 lengths in the same race last season, faces potential competition from notable mares such as You Wear It Well and Love Envoi. Both mares are past winners of the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

The article also notes the precautionary use of fleece covers on the course due to concerns about subzero temperatures leading up to the event. Eloise Quayle, the clerk of the course, expresses optimism about the current ground conditions, stating it is good to soft, soft in places. Light showers are forecasted, and with the fleece covers in place, the course should maintain its condition.

The potential dual participation of Shishkin and Constitution Hill at Newcastle adds an exciting dimension to the upcoming races. It will be intriguing to see how these top-performing horses fare in their respective events.

Betting Implications

Constitution Hill is favourite to win the Fighting Fifth Hurdle. At the time of writing, SpreadEx are offering 1/6. The bookie have Love Envoi at 9/2 and You Wear it Well at 11/1. Both could offer good value each-way.

Shishkin is favourite for the Rehearsal Chase, currently priced at 7/4 with Unibet. The bookie has, at the time of writing, Easy as That at 7/1, Bill Baxter at 8/1 and Datsalrightgino at 9/1. William Hill currently have Shishkin at 9/4.
