After a week of speculation following an explosive press conference, Antonio Conte has left Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent.
Conte criticised the players and the culture of the club after drawing away to relegation threatened Southampton. Former Chelsea boss Conte had been in charge at Spurs for 16 months. The Italian’s assistant, Cristian Stellini, will be head coach for the remainder of the season, with Ryan Mason as his deputy. The club are likely to appoint a permanent boss in the Summer.
Spurs sit fourth in the table and, having played more games than their rivals for a Champions League spot, face a fight to secure qualification for UEFA’s premier competition next season. The club are out of all cup competitions and only have their Premier League programme to focus on.
Next Permanent Tottenham Manager
As the season plays out Tottenham’s board of directors will be looking to appoint a new boss to take the club forward next season. Julian Nagelsmann, sacked by Bayern Munich last week, is an early favourite along with former boss Mauricio Pochettino, who led Spurs to a Champions League final in 2019. Oliver Glasner, currently impressing with Eintracht Frankfurt, ex Spain and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, and former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane have been mentioned.
One manager currently impressing in London is Brentford boss Thomas Frank, and Spurs may try to tempt him to move across the Capital. Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton is another Premier League coach who will be of interest.
