Football Betting Tips for Japanese J League 2023

Often considered as one of the more high-profile leagues within Asia, the J League is the home to Japan’s biggest clubs and after being launched in 1992, the competition has gone from strength to strength during the past three decades.

Like many other nascent leagues before them, the competition first relied on an influx of foreign talent and usually from players who were looking for one last season before finally hanging up their boots

However, after the likes of Gary Lineker and Dunga have long since called time on their careers, a new wave of Japanese talent has come to the fore and it is this new generation which has seen the J League come on leaps and bounds.

To the point where Japanese teams also find themselves being competitive in continental competition and when going up against the Asian counterparts, the opposition are always in for a rather tough 90 minutes.

While due to the quality of the sides that operate within the J League, it is also a highly popular competition both in terms of fan attendance and global viewing figures, with broadcast packages being sold to many countries across the globe.

Previous Season Recap

Kawasaki Frontale doubled down on their supreme season in 2020, although they were unable to match the margin by which they won the league in 2020.

In 2020, they were able to romp to the title with an 18-point lead, while their margin of victory in 2021 was 13 points. Incredibly, this chasm between themselves and Yokohama FM is seen as something of a disappointment in a way, displaying the dominance they enjoy in the J League, with most J League predictions backing the side to walk the league again.

Due to their continued success, the only thing that was left to decide at the top of the table in 2021 was which teams would clinch the AFC Champions League places.

In the end, it was Yokohama FM (79 points) that took an automatic place in the competition. A further six points behind, Vissel Kobe finished on 73 points and found themselves in the AFC Champions League qualifiers.

Away from the top, it was another incredibly interesting battle to avoid relegation. Yokohama FC (27 points) and Vegalta Sendai (28 points) went down with more of a whimper than a bang. However, Oita Trinita (35), Tokushima Vortis (36) and Shonan Bellmare (37) were all incredibly difficult to split.

In the end, it was Shonan Bellmare that escaped on the final day thanks to a draw that kept their heads above water. The 2021 iteration of the J League was incredibly tight and exciting, with so few points separating some of the more important positions in the table.

The fact that the J League is proving to be more unpredictable means that backing the right J League predictions is so important. If you can find a tipster that offers J League predictions that are founded in experience and knowledge, then it will make it far more likely that you will be profitable when it comes to betting on the J League.

This is what makes our J League predictions so popular, with our expert tipsters living and breathing Japanese football, meaning they are experts in the world of J League predictions.

Notable transfers

The Japanese J League is not synonymous with massive spending. Unlike leagues like the English Premier League and Ligue 1, there is not the same level of unbelievable spending, with Manchester City and PSG backed by mega money. Instead, the J League depends on more inter-team football transfers, with most of these usually being below the £1 million mark.

One transfer we are excited to see take to the field is Douglas. The 34-year-old has made his way to Kashiwa Reysol for the new season. The Brazilian may be getting on in years, but he will be tasked with providing the scoring touch for a side that is simply not hitting the back of the net enough. This, coupled with a very leaky defence, means that the arrival of Douglas and the promise of goals is even more important. Perhaps he will prove to be a player that features prominently in many J League predictions this season if he can start scoring quickly.

A very big capture and one that will have many football fans excited is champions Kawasaki’s purchase of Chanathip Songkrasin. The attacking-midfielder has been very impressive in recent seasons and became an integral part of Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo’s J1 League campaign. Signing with the champions will give the 28-year-old a great platform to show off his ability, and he will surely see a lot of the ball as his side look to better the 81 goals they scored last year.

However, it is worth noting that signing for the champions is not an easy proposition, with expectations very high straight off the bat. It will be interesting to see whether he can hit the ground running for his new side.

Which Teams are Favourites to Win Japanese J League 2023

When it comes to just who will come out on top at the end of the season, it is incredibly difficult to look past Kawasaki Frontale and after winning last two editions of the competition at an absolute canter, they will now look to earn third-straight J League title.

While if they are to be stopped, then the challenge will likely come from Yokohama F. Marinos and with these two teams starting the season as favourites to win the richest prize in Japanese football, the 2022 edition of the J League looks set to be a two-horse race at best.

Which Teams are in Danger of Relegation?

After a torrid time in the league in 2021, it was Shonan Bellmare that are much fancied to go down, with many J League predictions backing them to go down, and so it has proved this year.

The side find themselves at the foot of the table after three games with a draw and two defeats meaning they are already two short of FC Tokyo in 15th and safety. If the side are hoping for a similarly miraculous escape from danger again this year, then it could all end in tears, with many J League predictions backing them to lose their place in the top league in Japan.

Alongside them are Cerezo Osaka, who are yet to win a single game this year and look like they are struggling. Interestingly, Vissel Kobe are currently without a win after drawing three games and losing three, meaning they are in 16th and currently take up the relegation playoff spot.

Of course, the season is still very young, but with the side without a win, it is a huge surprise considering they finished in third last season.

Few J League predictions will back them to go down at this point, but if they do not arrest their slump soon, then perhaps they may start to shift in the J League predictions.

J League players to keep an eye on this season

The players that most J League predictions will look to keep their eyes on are the players that play for Kawasaki. One such player is Leandro Damiao. The forward has been in good form this season and scored a 95th minute equaliser against Gamba Osaka recently to rescue a point for his side. His ability to score goals could prove vital to the reigning-champions as they look to defend their crown.

We also like the look of Kaina Yoshio of Yokohama FM. The centre-attacking-midfielder has also been in decent form, with goals and incisive passes aplenty so far. If Yokohama FM are to battle at the top of the league and wrestle the crown away from Kawasaki, then he will be integral, and may feature in a lot of J League predictions across the season.

How do we Produce Our Betting tips and Predictions

It is fair to say that betting on J League differs from other top leagues in Asia and this is due to the nature of the top teams being much stronger than those within bottom half – which means the 1×2 market may not be the most one that offers the most in terms of profitability.

As such it’s crucial to keep track of how well the underdogs might do against the favourites, or conversely how much stronger those teams at the top truly are. While it must be noted that balance changes from season to season, and this is where expert tipsters can come in handy.

Japanese J League 2022/23 Overview

When it comes to wagering on the J League, we recommend that you either do a huge amount of research, or you can back our J League predictions.

If you decide to do the former, then ensure that you look at all of the relevant stats and data before you bet. Unlike many other big football leagues across the world, this one will not have the same name recognition, making the strategy of more casual bettors in simply backing a big name far less effective.

If you do not have the time to do a huge amount of research into each and every bet, then we recommend that you back our J League predictions. Every single J League prediction on site will have been researched and written by a J League expert. This means that you can be sure that whenever you back our J League predictions from Betting.com, you will do so with a genuine expert’s pick.

Alongside this, it is vital that you choose the right bookmaker for you. Many betting sites will state that a certain bookie is the best, but this will not be true for everyone. Indeed, if you want to wager on your J League predictions with live streaming, competitive odds and a generous welcome offer, then your choice of best bookmaker will be different from another person. Indeed, if someone else only wants a bet builder and an array of markets to use with their J League predictions, then they will have a different idea on who is the best. Ensure that before you pick a bookie, you know exactly what you want to work with.

Also, be sure that your bookie of choice offers J League matches with a range of betting markets. Doing a huge amount of research into a bookmaker and then signing up with them only to find they do not provide markets for the J League would prove to be a complete waste of your time.

Alongside this, it is vital that if you want to bet on niche markets for the J League, then you research what your potential bookmaker of choice has to offer. After all, if they only give you the opportunity to wager on match winner and BTTS, then you will likely be left disappointed if what you really want to bet on is goal times, handicaps and yellow cards. Instead, make sure that they offer you the ability to bet on your favourite sports and leagues with the markets you wish to bet on.

Finally, make sure you have fun while betting. The whole point of gambling on sports events is to make the game even more exciting. When backing different J League predictions, ensure that you are doing so within your means, and that you always keep your betting fun.
