Group G Overview
Five-time World Cup winners Brazil are the pre-tournament favourites this winter, but they have been drawn into a challenging group.
Switzerland have made it to the knockouts in three of the last four World Cups, and Serbia have a strong squad.
Cameroon are the weakest team on paper despite finishing third at the most recent AFCON.
The Favourites: Brazil
Brazil were quarter-finalists in 2006 and 2010, then humiliated in 2014 and again eliminated at the last eight in 2018. The pressure is always immense for A Seleção, and much of that falls on the shoulders of Neymar.
Neymar’s performances are crucial for Brazil, and he has started the club season in fine form. Tite has an array of elite players at his disposal, however, including Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, Manchester United’s Casemiro and PSG’s Marquinhos.
Tite has options for how he balances his side, but Brazil will be on the front foot in the group stage. Even with a slightly trickier draw, look for the favourites to score plenty of goals – they have found the net four or more times in five of their last seven.

Serbia
Serbia have fallen at the group stage in their last three World Cup appearances. This squad is superior to those that have come before, however, and finished ahead of Portugal in qualification. Those efforts were followed by a run of four wins and a draw in their final five Nations League matches.
Sergej Milinković-Savić, Aleksandar Mitrović, Dušan Vlahović, and Dušan Tadić is a group to get excited about. This squad is more than a four-man team, too, with high-level players in every position.
How they fare against Brazil in the opening match could set the tone for their World Cup campaign.
Serbia are 5/4 to qualify from Group G at BetVictor.
Switzerland
Switzerland are renowned for their consistency, having won at least one match at the last four World Cups and reached the round of 16 in three of those tournaments. The Rossocrociati were quarter finalists at the Euros last summer, too.
While Granit Xhaka is playing the best football of his career at Arsenal, Xherdan Shaqiri is past his best, while Denis Zakaria has barely played for Chelsea.
The defence is accomplished and experienced, but there are doubts about the attack. Keep an eye on Red Bull Salzburg’s Noah Okafor as a wildcard.
Switzerland are 6/1 at Unibet to finish top of Group G.
Cameroon
Napoli’s André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are the two most well-known names in the Cameroon squad.
Despite overcoming Algeria in extra time to book their place in Qatar, Cameroon have their work cut out in a very competitive Group G.
Les Lions Indomptables haven’t avoided defeat in a World Cup match since 2002. The last time they made it to the knockout rounds was their historic quarter-final effort in 1990.
Cameroon are 8/11 to finish bottom of the group with Coral.
