Another season of Super League is upon us with Warrington Wolves hosting Leeds Rhinos in the opening match on Thursday evening. The other sides will be in action over the following days, however, defending champions St Helens Saints and their opponents Huddersfield Giants will have to wait to open their campaigns. The Saints are going up against NRL champions Penrith Panthers in the World Club Challenge on Saturday.
St Helens are aiming to be the first club to win five successive Super League titles. They have been the dominant force in Super League over the last four seasons and their new boss Paul Wellens, promoted from within, will be keen to continue the success.
Wigan Warriors could well be Saints’ closest challengers. After winning the Challenge Cup in his debut season as head coach, Matt Peet will be hoping to take his charges to the next level and secure a Grand Final win.
One of the first teams we will see in 2023 is the Leeds Rhinos, who enjoyed a great end to 2022. The Headingley outfit were down in 11th place but the mid-season appointment of Rohan Smith saw them climb the table and take their place in the Grand Final, where Saints had a little too much for them.
The Rhinos opponents in the opener Warrington Wolves could also be contender and they will be hoping to make the play-offs.
