Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle Betting Tips & Predictions

Newcastle maintained their unbeaten run with a draw away to Arsenal on Tuesday night.

It is now the turn of the FA Cup, with the Magpies on the road against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday evening. Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Targett, Emil Krafth, Paul Dummett and Alexander Isak are all out for the visitors.

Sheffield Wednesday enter this match on a nine-game unbeaten streak of their own. They sit second in League One, four points behind Plymouth Argyle.

Win To Nil: Newcastle

6/4 (Paddy Power)

Owners of the Premier League’s best defence and with a string of clean sheets since the World Cup, Newcastle should be able to keep a League One attack quiet for 90 minutes on Saturday night.

The atmosphere will be a factor, and Sheffield Wednesday enter this game in good form, but the Magpies have been exceptional this season.

Look for Eddie Howe’s team to win this at a canter.

Anytime Goalscorer: Chris Wood

6/4 (Bet365)

With Howe likely to protect Callum Wilson for the League Cup tie against Leicester next week, Chris Wood is expected to get the start up top for the visitors. Wood’s physicality is an asset in what could be a bruising tie.

Despite starting just six times this season, Wood has three goals to his name, including a strike away to Leicester on Boxing Day.

Wood isn’t the most glamorous player in this Newcastle squad, but the former Burnley man has a key role to play here.

Total Cards: Over 2.5

4/5 (Bet365)

Sheffield Wednesday have been relatively disciplined in the day-to-day of League One action.

They still rank around mid-table in tackles and fouls per match, however, and they will be put under far greater pressure than usual against this Newcastle side.

The Magpies, too, are unafraid of a challenge and will compete hard in this game unlike some Premier League sides when they face weaker opposition.

This is good value on three or more cards.
