Racing and fashion come together at Royal Ascot. It is expected that the festival will attract in the region of 270,000 spectators over the five days. This will mark the the first Royal Ascot since Queen Elizabeth II died last year.

Organisers will be hoping that there will be no disruption from animal rights protesters after problems at other major horse racing events this year.

Dettori to make final appearance at Ascot

This year’s Ascot is also set to be the final appearance of Frankie Dettori, 52, who is due to retire this year.

Dettori famously rode his “Magnificent Seven” at the course back in 1996. He will ride Chaldean in the St James’ Palace Stakes on day one.  Chaldean will face Paddington in the clash of the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas winners. The Italian will also be on board Inspiral in the Queen Anne Stakes.

Royal Ascot 2023: Highlights

Wednesday sees the Prince of Wales’s Stakes where Godolphin’s 2021 Derby winner Adayar is due to meet Aidan O’Brien’s Luxembourg and Champion Stakes victor Bay Bridge who represents Sir Michael Stoute.

On Thursday, Ladies’ Day the Ascot Gold Cup will be contested. St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov, is a leading contender this time, alongside Coltrane for Andrew Balding and O’Brien’s Dubai Gold Cup winner Broome.

In the Coronation Stakes on Friday Mawj and Tahiyra, first and second in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, renew their rivalry.

Little Big Bear, winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot last year, is favourite for the Commonwealth Cup.

Saturday sees the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
