Tuchel set to depart Bayern: Who is next?

Bayern Munich’s managerial situation has reached a critical point, with Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season following a string of disappointing defeats, including a 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, a 1-0 setback against Lazio in the Champions League, which Bayern did go on to rectify.

Initially, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had stated that Tuchel’s job was secure despite the defeats. However, the club has now confirmed that there will be a parting of ways, paving the way for speculation about potential replacements.

Who will be the next permanent Bayern Munich manager?

Several high-profile names have emerged as candidates to fill the managerial vacancy at Bayern Munich:

Xabi Alonso

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, has impressed in his first full season in charge. Leverkusen’s dominance in the Bundesliga, including a convincing 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich, positioned Alonso as a strong contender. However, Alonso has all but ruled himself out after stating that he intended to remain at Leverkusen next season. BetVictor have him priced at 6/1.

Roberto De Zerbi

After Alonso effectively ruled himself out of both the Bayern job and the Liverpool job Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has moved to the top of the betting. De Zerbi has impressed in the Premier League with the Seagulls, steering them to European qualification last season. This time round he has them right in the mix and made the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Zinedine Zidane

The former Real Madrid manager, who secured numerous trophies during his tenure, including three Champions League titles, is a perennial favorite for top managerial positions. Zidane’s availability and track record make him an attractive option for Bayern Munich.

Jose Mourinho

Despite recent struggles with various clubs, Mourinho’s pedigree as one of the world’s top managers cannot be ignored. His availability after being sacked by Roma earlier in the season makes him a potential candidate for the Bayern job.

Hansi Flick

A former Bayern manager who enjoyed tremendous success during his tenure, Flick’s achievements, including winning seven trophies, including the Champions League, make him a compelling option. However, Flick is currently with the German national team, adding a layer of complexity to the situation.
