Newcastle are unbeaten at home this season, and host a Leicester team which has lost all three of their league matches since the World Cup.
Eddie Howe has made the Magpies into legitimate challengers for a Champions League berth. The question now is whether Howe can also bring the first major silverware to St James’ Park since 1955.
The season focus for Leicester is still on avoiding the drop. A good run prior to the World Cup has come to an end. While cup competitions can be a distraction, Brendan Rodgers will know a positive result here could be a springboard.
Winner: Newcastle
It is a bit surprising to see Newcastle at 7/10.
Leicester are a difficult team to predict, with a large range in their performance levels, but they have been a long way off this Newcastle team in 2022-23.
Eddie Howe’s side are a force to be reckoned with, and particularly so in front of a packed crowd at St James’.
A home win is the most likely outcome here. Newcastle might have been frustrated by Leeds in their last home fixture, but they should enjoy more success against Leicester.
Clean Sheet: Newcastle
Newcastle have only conceded five goals in nine home league matches. It is four Premier League matches without conceding for Howe’s side, including their 3-0 win over Leicester.
The Foxes have been up and down from a goal scoring perspective. At times, they are wasteful, and at others they simply cannot generate sufficient chances.
Anytime Goalscorer: Miguel Almiron
Scorer of a sublime goal when these teams met at the King Power Stadium a couple of weeks ago, Miguel Almiron has cooled off after his scorching form before the World Cup break, but he remains a persistent threat from the flank.
With uncertainty over who will lead the line for the hosts, Almiron is the pick of the options in the goalscorer markets.
