Europa League Final 2023: Sevilla v Roma
Two outstanding Europa League records go head to head in Budapest as six-time-winners Sevilla take on Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, who is unbeaten in five continental finals.
Both teams have had disappointing domestic seasons, however, they have impressed in Europe, particularly since the turn of the year.
Sevilla have reached the final of the Europa league on seven occasions. Two more than any other club has managed in this competition (under its current name or the UEFA Cup).
Veteran Jesus Navas, who is the current captain, played in the club’s first triumph in 2006 when he was only 20, as they saw off Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough. They have amassed five further wins, the latest coming in 2020.
Should Roma win Mourinho will become the most decorated manager in European competition, ahead of Giovanni Trapattoni. He is also bidding to the first coach to win the Europa League with three different clubs, following previous victories with Porto (2003) and Manchester United (2017).
This will be Roma’s fifth European final overall, with the most recent seeing Mourinho’s men beat Feyenoord last year in the Europa Conference League final.
