EFL Cup Final: Manchester United 2 Newcastle United 0

Manchester United secured their first trophy in almost six years with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Wembley.

Newcastle started well with plenty of possession and a couple of half chances. However, two first half goals in six first half minutes sealed the win for the Red Devils.

Casemiro, excellent throughout scored the first goal with a thumping header and Marcus Rashford’s shot deflected off Sven Botman to wrongfoot the unfortunate Loris Karius for the second.

Newcastle rallied in the second period, however, Eddie Howe’s side have struggled in the final third of late and Erik ten Hag’s side were able to see the game out.

Many have been impressed with Ten Hag this season and many are predicting the start of a new trophy-laden era for the Old Trafford club under the Dutchman. In fact, there has been talk of a quadruple, with the club still in the FA Cup and the Europa League. The Premier League title is maybe the least likely trophy to come to Old Trafford this season, with Ten Hag’s side in third place, eleven points behind leaders Arsenal and six points behind second placed Manchester City, with a game in hand on both. However, it has to be acknowledged that Manchester United are playing as consistently as anyone at the moment.

Betfair are currently offering odds of 80/1 on Man Unt winning the quadruple.

Odds correct as of 02.03.23,12:00. Odds subject to change.
