McGregor commits to Celtic until 2028
Celtic Captain Callum McGregor has signed a new five-year contract with the club.
The 30-year-old joined the club’s youth academy aged eight. He has clocked up 420 appearances in all competitions, scoring 62 goals.
McGregor made his debut in 2014 and since then he has helped Celtic to win five trebles. Overall the 53-cap Scotland international has won 20 domestic trophies at Celtic Park. Since taking over as skipper from Scott Brown he has led Celtic to five trophies.
In a statement on the Celtic website McGregor said:
“It’s amazing to extend my stay at the club. As I’ve touched on before, this club means so much to me and the success that we’ve had over the past few seasons has cemented that
“I feel like the club’s in a great place to move forward as well, and when they came and asked me to extend my stay I was absolutely delighted.
“Brendan (Rodgers)is a top manager and I had the pleasure of working with him before and seeing what he did with that group of players, especially a young, hungry group similar to ourselves, and the way he progressed us and took us on.
“His personality around the place gives the building another lift as well, so the club’s in a really strong place.”
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who returned to the club last month, described McGregor as an “inspirational player – that’s undervalued immensely”.
Furuashi and Maeda sign extensions
Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda have also committed their long-term futures to the Scottish Premiership champions, with both players signing new deals which will keep them at Celtic Park until 2027.
