Where Will Kane Play Next Season?

Bayern Join Chase for Kane. Where will he be next season?

Bayern Munich believe they can sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane and are set to make a new offer to sign the England captain. German newspaper Bild reported on Tuesday June 27 that Kane had agreed personal terms with Bayern.

There have been rumours of Kane moving in the past. However, the England striker has always ended up staying. After his breakthrough season in 2014/15 Manchester United tested the water. Kane remained at Tottenham and went on to sign new deals in 2016 and 2018. There would, of course, have been sufficient financial rewards in those contracts for a player of his stature. However, Kane showed loyalty to Spurs and a belief that they would continue to compete for honours.

Unfortunately for Kane though, Tottenham have not managed to win a major trophy. More worryingly they have started to move backwards, and supporters have questioned the ambition of their club over the past three seasons.

Kane was tempted by Manchester City two summers ago. Many people were suggesting that he was certain to join the Citizens, especially when it was reported that the England captain had reported late for pre-season training. His latest contract proved not to have a get-out-clause, so Kane remained in North London.

Last season was an incredibly frustrating one for all at Tottenham. Kane continued to score and create goals and operate at a high level, but the team failed to make significant progress in the domestic cups, exited the Champions League in the round of 16 and slipped to eight place in the Premier League, leaving Spurs with no European football of any sort next season.

This prompts the question; will this be the summer that Kane finally moves? Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may decide that this is the moment he has to cash in on his prize asset. And Kane himself, despite the loyalty he holds towards Tottenham may feel that at 29 he has to make a change if he is to win the game’s biggest trophies. He is already Spurs’ record goalscorer with 280 goals in 435 games, but his clear ambition to compete for football’s most prestigious trophies may not be met for some time at Tottenham.

Will Kane Sign for Manchester United?

Manchester United would really like to add Kane to their ranks. They are desperate for a striker and a signing such as Kane would prove to be a signature capture in Erik ten Hag’s rebuilding project.

However, from the Red Devils’ perspective a fee of £100m or more could prove prohibitive as they fight financial fair play restrictions. Levy is also, apparently, reluctant to sell Kane to a Premier League rival.

Will Kane Sign For Chelsea?

If Levy was expressing reluctance to allow a move to Manchester United, then it is unlikely he will want to deal with Spurs’ London rivals. Chelsea were crying out for a finisher last season, but after spending so much money it is questionable whether they would be able to justify a £100m fee.

Joining Chelsea would allow Kane to remain in London and to link up with his ex-boss at Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino. But Chelsea’s lack of European football next season might prove to be a stumbling block.

Will Kane go to Bayern Munich?

Bayern have won the Bundesliga 11 times in a row, have made the Champions League quarterfinals in most of those seasons and won the tournament twice along with five German Cups. Kane would clearly look at those trophies and be tempted.

Also playing less games in Germany with great recovery may be appealing. Kane has been playing 38-game league seasons and competing in two domestic cups in England, alongside European matches, and International football. He is currently playing as well as ever and is showing no signs of slowing down. But recovery becomes harder for everyone from around the age of 30 and Kane could keep his career going at the highest level for longer with a slightly less punishing schedule. The Bundesliga only has 18 teams, there is only one domestic cup and there is also a winter break.

Bayern never directly replaced Robert Lewandowski last season and Kane could fit the bill. It remains to be seen whether they will come back to Tottenham with another offer.

Real Madrid or PSG

Carlo Ancelotti apparently liked the idea of Kane spearheading his team next season as the Italian looks to rebuild his Real Madrid side into a genuine Champions League challenger again. However, the big money signing of Jude Bellingham and the possibility of Kylian Mbappe arriving at the Bernabeu in the next couple of years mean that Los Blancos may not feel spending £100m on Kane can be justified. Madrid have just signed Joselu and there is a feeling that the former Stoke City and Newcastle United striker will fill the gap upfront this season before a big money signing, such as Mbappe comes to the club in 2024.

PSG also showed interest; however it remains to be seen whether this will come to fruition, with the future of Kylian Mbappe a major factor.

Will Kane Stay at Spurs?

If Kane was to run his contract down at Spurs, he would be able to leave for nothing in 2024. . In January 2024, he can sign pre-contract terms with any overseas club and there would be no fee. He could stay at Spurs, add to his Premier League goals tally (Kane is rapidly closing in on Alan Shearer’s record) and then negotiate a move. He would have greater freedom and a large amount of the transfer fees spoken of could go straight to him as a signing on fee if he were to go on a free transfer.

Shearer’s record a factor: But so are trophies

Kane has scored 213 goals in 320 top-flight games and is currently 48 goals off breaking Shearer’s record as the highest scorer in Premier League history. So spending another couple of seasons in the Premier League, with Spurs or at another club, would obviously have its attraction. However, a player at Kane’s level will also be driven by the ambition to win trophies. It is also doubtful that Spurs would want to see him leave for nothing in 12 months’ time.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Kane is on top of his game and despite the high fee would prove to be an asset to whichever club manages to secure his services for the coming campaign.
