Celtic have reappointed Brendan Rodgers as manager on a three-year-deal. Former Liverpool and Leicester boss Rodgers had been linked with the Leeds United job. However, the 50-year-old has been confirmed as the man to replace Ange Postecoglou, who has joined Tottenham after winning the treble this season, at Celtic Park.
Rodgers left Leicester at the start of April and is returning to the club where he won consecutive domestic trebles before leaving for the King Power Stadium in 2019. At the time there was disappointment among the Celtic support that the Irishman had left mid-season. John Kennedy, who Postecoglou wanted to join him at Tottenham, will stay with the Scottish Premiership champions to work with Rodgers.
In a statement Rodgers said:
“I am really delighted to return to Celtic and I am hugely excited by this great opportunity. When I was given the privilege of being asked to join the club again, it was a very simple decision for me and my family.”
Rodgers’ joined Celtic for the first time in May 2016, seven months after being sacked by Liverpool. He won all seven domestic trophies available to him before leaving for Leicester in February 2019. He went on to win the FA Cup and secure two top five finishes with the Foxes. However, this season proved to be a struggle and he was relieved of his duties in April. Leicester went on to be relegated to the Championship.
