Crucial clash on the South Coast

City need the points as they bid for a fourth successive Premier League title, which will also keep their hopes of the double alive. Brighton are aiming to upset the odds with the hope of staying in the race for Europe.

Brighton and Hove Albion – Team news

The Seagulls have faltered slightly in recent weeks. After the exit against Roma in the round of 16 of the Europa League, De Zerbi’s team have four matches without a win. Admittedly, they have faced both Liverpool and Arsenal in that period, but they also failed to get victories against Brentford and Burnley. In the last 10 matches Brighton have only picked up an average of 1.2 points, compared to 1,375 throughout the season. 27 points have so far come at home with 17 away.

Part of Brighton’s loss of form can to some extent be blamed on all the injuries they have had. Against Burnley, no less than nine players were missing, several of them regulars. Billy Gillmour has a problem with a knee and has not played a game since the international break. James Millner, Kaoru Mitoma, Evan Ferguson and Pervis Estupiñán are also on the injury list.

Manchester City – Team news

The exit from the Champions League was a blow to Pep Guardiola’s side, however, they progressed to the FA Cup final with a win over Chelsea on Saturday and now they will be turning their attention to the Premier League. City are favourites to win the league, which would make them the first team in history to win four successive English top flight titles. However, with Arsenal and Liverpool showing incredible consistency, there is not much margin for error.

City have won their last three Premier League matches, scoring 13 goals in the process with a 4-1 home win against Aston Villa, 4-2 at Crystal Palace and, most recently, 5-1 at the Etihad against Luton Town. In 2024, City have not lost a single competitive match in regular time.
