Everton points deduction reduced to six
Following an appeal by Everton Football Club, the punishment for breaching financial regulations has been lessened from a 10-point deduction to six points. The original sanction, imposed in November, was due to Everton’s violation of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the period ending in the 2021-2022 season.
The adjustment in points sees Everton’s position in the Premier League table improve, as they now climb two places from 17th to 15th, surpassing Brentford on goal difference.
In a statement released by the Premier League, it was noted that Everton FC appealed the initial sanction on nine grounds, all of which pertained to the severity of the penalty rather than contesting the breach itself, which the club had admitted. The Appeal Board upheld two of the nine grounds presented by Everton, resulting in the reduction of the points deduction from 10 to six.
This revised penalty comes into immediate effect, and the Premier League table will reflect the adjustment accordingly.
The outcome of Everton’s appeal has significant implications for their standing in the league, with Sean Dyche’s side now boasting 25 points, placing them comfortably in 15th position and holding a five-point buffer above the relegation zone.

Betting Implications
Obviously this gives the Toffees a much better chance of staying up and is likely to give the players a boost heading into their next fixtures. So those betting on relegation outrights and Everton’s fixtures will need to take this into account.
It also may give greater clarity on future punishments for sides facing similar charges, such as Nottingham Forest. Forest sit four points above the relegation zone, having played one game more that third bottom Luton Town. Punters may want to take this into account when deciding on the teams they think will go down.
As the season has progressed there has been increased speculation among bettors that the same six teams who swapped between the Premier League and the Championship could be about to do so in the opposite direction. Everton getting four of their points back definitely increases the chances of Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town all making an immediate return to the second tier.
