Clean sweep of Grade 1 races for Mullins’ stable
Galopin Des Champs impressive victory in the Irish Gold Cup and State Man’s Irish Champion Hurdle win underlined Willie Mullins’ total dominance of the Dublin Festival as the trainer won all the meeting’s Grade One races. Mullins’ runners won €1,366,500 in prize money as they swept all before them at Leopardstown.
Galopin Des Champs faced stiff competition in the Irish Gold Cup, notably from Fastorslow whom he had twice been bested by since his Cheltenham Gold Cup victory. However, ridden superbly by Paul Townend, the 1-3 favourite secured a comfortable victory, winning by four-and-a-half lengths.

Adding to Mullins’ success, his nephew Danny Mullins clinched three Grade One wins, including unexpected victories in the Nathaniel Lacy Novice Hurdle and Spring Novice Hurdle with Dancing City and Kargese, respectively.
State Man’s impressive win in the Irish Champion Hurdle set the stage for a showdown with Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Despite Constitution Hill’s formidable reputation, Mullins expressed confidence in State Man’s abilities, suggesting an open competition for the Champion Hurdle title.
El Fabiolo’s triumph in the Dublin Chase, along with wins by Ballyburn and Fact to File, underscored Mullins’ clean sweep of all eight Grade One races at Leopardstown. El Fabiolo’s performance solidified his status as the favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.
