Djokovic sees off Fritz

Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of an unprecedented 11th Australian Open title remains on track as he secured a commanding victory over American 12th seed Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. The Serbian, eyeing his 25th Grand Slam to surpass Margaret Court’s record of 24, battled through hot conditions to win 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic, acknowledging the challenge posed by Fritz’s powerful serve, expressed the difficulty of finding the right timing in the match.

In the upcoming semi-finals, Djokovic is set to face Italian fourth seed Jannik Sinner, who emerged victorious against Russian fifth seed Andrey Rublev. Djokovic, the top seed, has an impressive track record at Melbourne Park, having won his last 33 singles matches, making him a clear favourite to defend his Australian Open title.

Sabalenka defeats Krejcikova to seal semifinal berth.

On the women’s side, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka secured her spot in the semi-finals by defeating Barbora Krejcikova 6-2, 6-3. She is scheduled to meet American teenager Coco Gauff in a highly anticipated semi-final. In-form Gauff advanced after a hard-fought three-set victory against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.

The other two quarterfinals in the women’s singles draw are yet to take place, featuring players such as China’s Zheng Qinwen, Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya, Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska, and Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova. The outcomes of these matches will determine the remaining semi-finalist who will face either Gauff or Sabalenka in the women’s singles final.

The women’s draw at the Australian Open has witnessed several notable upsets, opening the door for new faces to make their mark in the latter stages of the tournament.

Both Djokovic and Sabalenka remain favourites to win, however, both face tough tasks in their respective semi-finals. Sinner and Gauff are both in form and punters may feel that if either upset the odds in the last four then they may be a good bet to take the title.
