Djokovic comes through in four sets
Djokovic faced a tough challenge in the first round of the Australian Open, battling against 18-year-old qualifier Dino Prizmic in a four-hour and one-minute match. Djokovic eventually secured victory with a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4 scoreline. Despite facing his childhood idol, Prizmic saved six match points and left a strong impression on the world number one, who commented on Prizmic’s potential and mental presence on the court.
Djokovic, aiming for his 11th men’s title in Melbourne and a record-extending 25th Grand Slam singles title, mentioned feeling “under the weather” during the match. His next opponent in the second round will be either Alexei Popyrin or Marc Polmans.
Prizmic, the French Open boys’ champion in the previous year, showcased great resilience and skill in his debut Grand Slam appearance. Djokovic acknowledged Prizmic’s abilities, stating that he felt like he was “playing [against] himself in the mirror” and praising the Croatian’s lack of weaknesses.
