Arsenal look to return to winning ways against Palace

Arsenal, who are aiming to make a serious tilt at the title, host Crystal Palace having fallen behind the leaders in recent weeks. Palace travel to the Emirates with only one win in their last five league matches and will probably aim to keep things tight and frustrate the home side

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta will be desperate for his side to get three points on the board after a number of disappointing results over the festive period.

ACL victim Jurrien Timber is back in training, however, it will be a while before he is available for selection. Thomas Partey (thigh) and Fabio Vieira (groin) are not expected back until February. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny are both away on international duty, while Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf) is doubtful. Gabriel Jesus appears to have fully recovered from the knee problem which kept him out of the defeat to Liverpool.

Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson will be disappointed his side have not picked up more points in recent weeks. However, the veteran boss will take heart from some of his side’s performances against the top teams. They battled well when losing at home to Arsenal at the start of the season and will hope to make life difficult for the Gunners. Palace go into the match on the back of a midweek FA Cup replay loss to Everton.

Former Arsenal defender Rob Holding, who signed for Palace over the summer, will miss out against his old club with an ankle issue. Michael Olise, rumoured to be on Arsenal’s wanted list, is out with a thigh injury. Cheick Doucoure (Achilles) and Joel Ward (thigh) are also unavailable, while Jesurun Rak-Sakyi (thigh) is bck in training. Jordan Ayew is also unavailable due to AFCON commitments

Prediction

Arsenal need to win to get their season back on track and I think that they will manage to do this. Palace will be very organised and will make things difficult, however, Arsenal should have too much for them. Home win.
