Fulham come from behind to dent Arsenal title hopes
After Bukayo Saka’s early goal, Raul Jimenez equalised for Fulham in the 29th minute, and Bobby Decordova-Reid secured the victory with a goal in the 60th minute.
The loss left Arsenal in fourth place, trailing two points behind league leaders Liverpool, who are set to face Newcastle United on New Year’s Day. Fulham, on the other hand, moved to 13th place, breaking a three-game losing streak.
Arsenal initially took the lead with a quick break that led to Gabriel Martinelli’s shot being parried by former Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Saka capitalised on the rebound, scoring from six yards. However, Fulham responded well, and Jimenez found the net after a cross from former Arsenal player Willian.
The winning goal for Fulham came from a corner, with Decordova-Reid capitalising on a scramble in the box to stab the ball past David Raya. This defeat marked Arsenal’s second consecutive loss following their 2-0 home defeat to West Ham.
Premier League title odds
Arsenal are now rated as 6/1 third favourites with bet365 to go one better than last season and win the title. Manchester City, who look to be returning to form, are still favourites to retain their crown, priced at 4/6 at the time of writing. Liverpool are second favourites at 5/2 with Aston Villa, currently in second place, still ranked as outsiders at 25/1. Bettors will need whether they think that City are back in the groove, whether Arsenal can get back to form and whether Liverpool and Villa have the staying power when making their outright picks. Ominously for the other contenders, City’s Kevin de Bruyne is back to fitness and striker Erling Haaland looks set to return in the coming weeks.
