Kempton hosts 73rd King George VI Chase
Kempton Park is gearing up for the Kempton Christmas Festival, with the King George VI Chase, one of the best National Hunt races in the England, and a huge event on the UK Boxing Day sporting calendar as its centrepiece. The winner is set to net £142,375 as some of the best chasers in the country contest the 3m course, which includes 18 fences.
Paul Nicholls has been the dominant trainer in the race in recent years with an amazing 11 wins since 2006, with Kauto Star accounting for five of those victories.
For good measure, Nicholls has won it four times in the last five years with Clan Des Obeaux, Frodon and Bravemansgame. Bravemansgame had dominated the ante-post betting this time around, however, in recent weeks Alloho has emerged as a big favourite, making it a big ask for Nicholls to bag another win this year.
The Grade 1 Chase is the biggest chase in the winter with punters looking at form from as far back as Cheltenham in March.
As well as Allaho and 2022 winner Bravemansgame, Gerri Colombe has gradually moved into contention with his consistency and staying power.
Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin could be a threat and for an outside bet Shark Hanlon’s Hewick could be well suited to the demands of this track, but this is a big ask on his first start since finishing down the field in the Galway Plate in August.

Prediction
We feel that Alloho, Bravemansgame, Gerri Colombe and Shishkin all have a strong chance. However we feel that Allaho will come out on top. Shishkin had looked like a good each-way bet at one point but his odds have shortened. If you are looking for an outsider to back each-way, we recommend Hewick, priced at 20/1 with bet365.
