Confident Paul rants at press conference as August focussed on fight
The relatively unknown 10-1-1 fighter, Andre August, and his entourage had a seemingly uneventful meeting with Jake Paul. However, things took a turn when Paul, known as “The Problem Child,” took issue with the laughter from August’s entourage after claiming to have never seen Paul fight.
In response, Paul decided to reveal a surprising piece of information to both the audience and his opponent – a history with August’s coach. Paul asserted, “I just think it’s funny that his peanut gallery is laughing. Did your coach tell you that I dropped him in sparring? Or did he not tell you that? Your own coach, I dropped your coach in sparring.”
The atmosphere became tense as a man presumed to be August’s coach began shouting at Paul. While the exact content of the coach’s words remained unclear, Paul suggested that he admitted the truth behind the sparring story. Paul added, “See, he’s getting all worked up because he knows what happened.”
The exchange ended with Paul sending a blunt message to Team August, telling them to be quiet and hinting that it might be their last week in the sport of boxing.
Paul, who has been preparing for the fight, expressed difficulty in finding footage of August but confidently promised to showcase his skills in the upcoming match. Despite not recording a knockout in nearly two years, Paul predicted that he would end this drought against August, whom he referred to as the second “real boxer” he has faced in his three-year career.
In contrast to Paul’s previous opponents, such as Tommy Fury and Nate Diaz, August opted for a more reserved approach and refrained from engaging in trash talk. August acknowledged the opportunity and thanked Paul for having him at the event, emphasising a focus on the upcoming fight rather than engaging in verbal sparring.
The press conference also unveiled details about the four-fight card, with Paul and August headlining the event. The co-feature will showcase a bout between Franchon Crews-Dezurn and Shadasia Green, who will be competing for the vacant WBC 168-pound crown in a 10-round match.
