Tottenham look to bounce back as Villa look towards top four
Spurs, having made a superb start will want to get back in touch with the leaders after two successive losses. Villa are in fifth place, a point and a place behind their hosts.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham have started the season extremely well under new boss Ange Postecoglou. They led the table earlier this month, however, two successive defeats, their first losses in the league this season have seen them drop to fourth. Both games have been frustrating for Tottenham. In the home defeat to Chelsea they started very well and despite being reduced to nine men played with character. They then led at Wolves going into injury time but conceded two late goals.
These fixtures have resulted in something of an injury crisis for Tottenham. James Maddison, highly impressive for Postecoglou’s side this season, withdrew from the England squad with an ankle injury sustained against Chelsea. It has subsequently been confirmed that he will miss the rest of the calendar year. Also injured against Chelsea was influential central defender Micky van de Ven. The hamstring injury he sustained means that he will also be sidelined until January. Richarlison has recently undergone surgery to address a long-term pelivic issue and Ryan Sessegnon (thigh), Alfie Whiteman (ankle), Ivan Perisic (knee) and Manor Solomon (knee) are also unavailable. Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma are both suspended. However, Destiny Udogie, who missed international duty with Italy due to a muscular issue is expected to be fit. Rodrigo Bentancur is expected to start.
Aston Villa
Villa have started the season extremely well, especially at home. However, their last away match in the Premier League saw them lose at Nottingham Forest. Villa go into the season knowing that victory will take them into the top four.
John McGinn, Diego Carlos and Matty Cash are all injury doubts for Villa.
Prediction
Tottenham are strong at home and Villa, under Unai Emery are a difficult side to beat and possess plenty of pace on the break. Both sides have made positive starts to the season, and both the pundit and the bookies seem to view it as a match which could go either way. . A score draw looks like the most likely outcome.
