Remainder of squad train as normal as Trippier returns home
The remainder of Gareth Southgate’s 22-man squad all trained on Sunday ahead of the trip to Eastern Europe for the final match of their qualification campaign.
Trippier started and played 90 minutes of Friday’s 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley. Newcastle confirmed Trippier “has returned home” after leaving England manager Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Betting Implications
England have already qualified as Group C winners for Euro 2024.They have 19 points from seven games and are favourites to win against North Macedonia. At the time of writing bet365 have England priced at 1/6 with a draw 6/1 and the hosts 18/1.
England are currently short in the left-back position and although Trippier is predominantly a right-back he is often deployed on the left for Southgate’s side and was switched to the left at half-time against Malta when Kyle Walker was introduced from the bench at right-back. This may mean that Manchester City’s versatile defender/midfielder Rico Lewis may make his first senior start at left-back. Bettors need to assess the impact they think that Trippier’s absence will have on England’s chances.
