Armenia host Wales in vital qualifier
Wales travel to Armenia knowing that two victories in their remaining two qualifying matches will be enough to send them into the Euro 2024 finals.
Armenia
Armenia are fourth in the group with only an outside chance of making the finals of Euro 2024. They will be unable to finish in the top two if they lose, or if they draw and Croatia win. Armenia will take heart from their victory over Wales in June. They followed this up with a win over Latvia, however, since then, they have failed to find a victory, though they held group leaders Turkey to a draw and lost narrowly to Croatia. The last round of international matches saw them suffer a damaging defeat to Latvia and lose a friendly against North Macedonia.
Armenia made several changes for the North Macedonia friendly and will revert to their strongest line up for the clash with Wales.
Armenia possible starting lineup:
Cancarevic; Calisir, Arutyunyan, Mkrtchyan; Dashyan, Iwu, Spertsyan, Tiknizyan; Briasco, Barseghyan; Zelarayan
Wales
Wales welcome back Brennan Johnson, however, captain Aaron Ramsay is still on the injured list. Robert Page’s side know that two wins will seal qualification for Euro 2024 and a positive result and performance in Armenia will set them up for their final match against Turkey, who have already qualified. They will be wary of the hosts, however, having lost at home to Armenia in June.
Having recently returned to first-team action for Tottenham Hotspur, Brennan Johnson is back in the Wales squad after missing the October fixture due to a hamstring injury. Captain Aaron Ramsey remains absent, though, so Johnson’s Spurs teammate Ben Davies will captain the side. Joe Morrell returns following suspension, and Page has called up former England Under-21 international full-back Jay Dasilva for the first time, along with defender Niall Huggins of Sunderland.
Wales possible starting lineup:
Ward; Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Roberts, J. James, Ampadu, Williams; Johnson, Wilson; Moore
Prediction
Wales need to win and although Armenia are no push overs Page’s side should have enough to come away with the win. We predict a Welsh victory, though it will probably be tight. Punters might want to back an away win with less than 2.5 goals.
