Accumulators are very popular bets among UK sports betting fans. Here are 10 selections from this weekend’s games across European leagues.
Remember, in accumulators, you need to correctly predict every selection in order to win, which makes them so rewarding when they do win – but most of the time they won’t win! Let’s see how we do.
All odds come from Bet365, and are correct as of Thursday 19th October 10am.
1: Belgian First Division A, Friday 20th Oct, 19:45: Union St Gilloise vs Eupen
Fridays are often where accumulators fail. But Union are top of the table in Belgium, and this professionally-run club (owned by Brighton chairman Tony Bloom) are surely mentally prepared to defeat lowly Eupen.
Predicted Result: Union St Gilloise win (1.25) Final Result: Union St Gilloise 4-1 Eupen: WIN
2: Norwegian Eliteserien, Saturday 21st Oct, 14:00: Bodo/Glimt vs Sandefjord
A top versus second-bottom clash with just 6 games to go means you have to fill your accumulator with a Bodo win. If they fail to win, Viking Stavanger will be hot on their heels. So they should have the motivation to exploit their footballing superiority.
Predicted Result: Bodo/Glimt win (1.14) Final Result: Bodo/Glimt 4-3 Sandefjord: WIN
3: Scottish Premiership, Saturday 21st Oct, 15:00: Rangers vs Hibernian
As an Aberdeen supporter, I have long learnt never to bet against the Old Firm. Rangers have a new coach and the players will be desperate to impress against Hibs. If anything, these odds look very generous.
Predicted Result: Rangers win (1.36) Final Result: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian: WIN
4: France Ligue 1, Saturday 21st Oct, 16:00: PSG vs Strasbourg
Luis Enrique’s tiki-taka Paris side has been very frustrating this season, but Mbappe finally found his scoring boots in Amsterdam on international duty and we bet that he will translate that into his Ligue 1 form. Last season, this fixture ended in a 2-1 win for PSG, courtesy of a 96th minute winner from Mbappe. Same again, please.
Predicted Result: PSG win (1.22) Final Result: PSG 3-0 Strasbourg: WIN
5: Netherlands Eredivisie, Saturday 21st Oct, 17:45: PSV vs Fortuna Sittard
PSV and their talismanic striker Luuk de Jong have been scoring goals for fun this year and we expect that to continue against Sittard.
Predicted Result: PSV win (1.10) Final Result: PSV 3-1 Fortuna Sittard: WIN
6: Netherlands Eredivisie, Saturday 21st Oct, 20:00: Feyenoord vs Vitesse Arnhem
After a slow start, Feyenoord have won 5 on the bounce and are excellent at the fortress that is de Kuip. It’ll be a bridge too far for Arnhem.
Predicted Result: Feyenoord win (1.14) Final Result: Feyenoord 4-0 Vitesse Arnhem: WIN
7: Czech First League, Sunday 22nd Oct, 14:00: Sparta Prague vs Dynamo Ceske Budejovice
The Czech champions and league leaders have won 4 home games in a row and should have too much firepower for lowly Dynamo. Sparta’s city rivals Slavia are waiting for any slip-ups, so Sparta will have enough motivation to get a win.
Predicted Result: Sparta Prague win (1.16) Final Result: Sparta Prague 4-0 Dynamo Ceske Budejovice: WIN
8: Swedish Allsvenskan, Sunday 22nd Oct, 16:30: Malmo vs Varbergs
Its squeaky bum time in Sweden – just 4 games to go and second-place Malmo cannot afford any more slip-ups. The overwhelming favourite at the start of the season will surely do the business against bottom-placed Varbergs.
Predicted Result: Malmo win (1.12) Final Result: Malmo 5-0 Varbergs: WIN
9: Turkish Superlig, Sunday 22nd Oct, 17:00: Fenerbahce vs Hatayspor
Galatasaray’s smash-and-grab at Old Trafford may have stolen the headlines for Turkish football this year, but their city rivals Fenerbahce are actually the ones who are top of the Super Lig. Little Hatayspor occupy a commendable 5th place and their defence will give Fener a hard challenge, but ex-Man City boy Edin Dzeko is on fire up front, and the Sukru Saracoglu stadium is a hostile environment for away teams.
Predicted Result: Fenerbahce win (1.22) Final Result: Fenerbahce 4-2 Hatayspor: WIN
10: Portuguese Primeira Liga, Saturday 28th Oct, 18:00: Benfica vs Casa Pia
Portuguese games are great for accumulators, as referees tend to give the big team as much stoppage time as they need to find a winner. There is no bigger team than Benfica, and anything other than a win for the Eagles would be a huge shock.
EDIT 23/10/23: This was a giant mess-up on my part – this game takes place a week later than I thought it would do, thanks to the Portuguese Cup. Sorry about that.
Predicted Result: Benfica win (1.22) Final Result: Benfica 1-1 Casa Pia: DRAW
We just couldn’t get over that final hurdle, as despite a sell-out crowd at Estadio da Luz, Benfica conceded a comical own-goal from the goalkeeper with 9 minutes remaining. A good example of why it’s so hard to win accumulators.
