Football Betting Tips for Serbian Super Liga Season 2022/23

Due to the worldwide impact of COVID-19, the Super Liga has slightly changed its format for the 2020/21 season to allow an additional 4 teams to compete in the league. This means 20 teams were competing last season. However, almost every coach, journalist, and expert complained about this idea. Everyone thought it diluted the talent pool by helping the Eternal Rivals “farm” points from six more sides.

After just a few months, league officials came to their senses and decided to revert back to the 16-team format we were used to. While the change was indeed a welcome one, it was bound to cause a bit of chaos. A decision was made to organise a massive purge. Six teams were relegated to the Serbian First League last season, with 2 teams promoted from the Prva Liga to the top division for the 2021/22 season.

In a cascade of events, Serbian Super Liga betting tips made the second division much more exciting than it usually is. Our experts believe that it’s become one of the top 5 most interesting second tiers in Europe.

After Radnicki 1923 made a long-awaited return, and Kolubara reached the top tier for the first time in history, the season was ready to click off. Serbian Super Liga predictions were all over the place, and we love it!

The 2021/22 campaign is already in progress and will conclude in May 2022. 16 teams are competing this season, with side Red Star Belgrade the defending champions. If you want to get the best Serbian Super Liga predictions, now would be the best time. The race is still tight and everyone has something to play for!

Partizan had a blistering start to the season, as they scored a whopping 25 goals in their first seven matches and kept five clean sheets in the process. Red Star was on their heels for a while, but they simply didn’t have the consistency or the firepower the black-and-white side had. Still, the difference is less than five points at the moment and our Serbian Super Liga betting tips suggest anything can happen.

A total of 6 teams were relegated to the second division Prva Liga last season after the league format was subsequently changed. FK Zlatibor Čajetina, FK Inđija, FK Rad, FK Javor Ivanjica, OFK Bačka, and FK Mačva Šabac were all relegated to the Prva Liga.

FK Rad was the closest to safety as they finished on equal points with 14th place Voždovac with only a small goal difference separating the two teams. This somewhat defied many Serbian Super Liga predictions.

As a result of the league format change, two teams have been promoted to the Super Liga for the 2021/22 season. Radnički 1923 secured promotion to the top division as they were crowned 2020/21 champions of the Serbian First League.

Meanwhile, FK Kolubara finished in 2nd place to secure promotion, although both teams finished on 69 points at the end of the season with the goal difference giving Radnički 1923 the title.

However, it’s worth mentioning that none of our Serbian Super Liga predictions had these clubs doing much in this current campaign. Not only are they underfunded, but they simply lack the experience to make it. Anything can happen, so survival is definitely a possibility.

Who are the best bookmakers for the Serbian Super Liga?

There is no shortage of bookmakers to choose from when it comes to Serbian football betting. You will find that the best bookmakers offer great bonuses and pay out especially well for big wins.

Previous Season Recap

A good way to understand Serbian football betting is to take a look at what happened in the past. Since complete team overhauls are rare, you can notice some patterns and tam habits. The previous season was a gripping campaign as 20 teams competed. Our tipsters had their hands full with this increased number of Serbian Super Liga predictions, but we somehow made it through.

Red Star Belgrade took the title after an impressive season where they did not lose a game, finishing with 35 wins, 3 draws, 0 losses and 13 points clear of 2nd placed Partizan.

Although missing out on the top spot, Partizan had a great season as they finished 2nd with 31 wins, 2 draws, and 5 losses, leaving them 21 points clear of 3rd place Čukarički. Along with 4th place finishers, Vojvodina, Čukarički qualified for the inaugural Europa Conference League.

The middle of the table was very compact last season as only 10 points separated 14th place finishers Voždovac to 5th place finishers TSC Bačka Topola. Our Serbian Super Liga predictions have them finishing around the same place this season, so stay tuned and see what’s going to happen.

Notable Transfers

Red Star Belgrade built on their attacking and creative options this season, which could give them an edge in their title defence. The squad has witnessed the introduction of a number of attacking-minded players, including centre-forward Loïs Diony, and central midfielder Nenad Krsticic. The most notable departure for Red Star this season is the young left-winger Zeljko Gavric who has signed for Hungarian side Ferencváros.

Partizan has seen some impressive arrivals to the team during the summer transfer window as they have looked to develop the squad across the board. In defence, Partizan signed centre-backs Sinisa Sanicanin and Nemanja Miletic. The frontline was bolstered by the Mercurial Ricardo Gomes, as well as Filip Holender and Danilo Pantic.

Winter was also a fun time for the two rivals, as they flexed their financial muscle yet again. Red Star brought in the trio of Nemanja Motika, Ohi Omoijuanfo, and Cristiano Piccini. Partizan made a big splash by snatching former Serbian international Ljubomir Fejsa, as well as established vet Marko Jevtovic. Both squads will look to slowly integrate their new signings each matchday.

Which Teams are Favourites to Win Serbian Super Liga 2022/23

Red Star Belgrade

Red Star have already proven themselves time and again as to their ability to triumph in the Super Liga and are rightly favourites again this season. Red Star are the current reigning champions after an amazing 2020/21 season and will be looking to defend their title effectively to match Partizan’s record of 8 Serbian league title championships. The side are also holders of the domestic cup and will be making a competitive bid for the Super Liga title once again this season.

FK Partizan

Partizan are capable of challenging for the Super Liga title this season if they continue their impressive run of form against rivals Red Star Belgrade. Partizan is considered to be a top team in the league and currently hold the most title championships (8). So far, Partizan are proving themselves as worthy title contenders as they are having a great 2021/22 campaign. Partizan are at the top of the table at the time of writing and if the team’s run of form continues on this trajectory, Partizan could be looking at securing yet another Super Liga title at the expense of rivals Red Star.

FK Čukarički

Čukarički have been making an impactful start to their 2021/22 season. The team also had a fantastic end to their 2020/21 campaign as they finished in 3rd position and qualified for European football. The club has brought in a number of signings across various positions but are far away from the two best teams in the country. This is likely the result of losing left-back Dimitrije Kamenovic who was sold to Lazio. However, this club can certainly be happy with its performances, as they are firm owners of 3rd place and are away from the insanity going down below them.

FK Vojvodina

Vojvodina had quite the competitive season during 2020/21 as they finished in 4th position and only 3 points behind 3rd place Čukarički. So far during the 2021/22 regular season, Vojvodina currently sits in 5th position, but they are technically closer to the bottom than they are to Partizan and Red Star. There are just 8 points separating them and 13th placed Metalac, so they have to be careful. One slip-up and they might even risk flirting with relegation.

Which Teams are in Danger of Relegation?

FK Novi Pazar

Novi Pazar is a team that has been struggling to make any real impact in the 2021/22 campaign as they currently occupy the very bottom spot in the Super Liga table. Last season, Novi Pazar managed to miss the relegation zone by just one point as they came in 12th. With the team already starting to trail behind the rest of the teams in the league, Novi Pazar could be looking at an intense relegation battle at the end of the regular season.

Radnički 1923

As expected, the newly-promoted side from Kragujevac is having a hard time adjusting to life in the top tier. They sit at 14th right now, but we wouldn’t put survival outside of the realm of possibility. Radnički 1923 isn’t downright bad like Novi Pazar, they’re more inconsistent. With a few wins in their last couple of games, we believe they can leapfrog the likes of Proleter and Spartak ŽK.

Metalac

Metalac is one of those teams that just refuse to lay down and accept relegation. Every season, they somehow wiggle their way into a top division spot next year. However, our Serbian Super Liga predictions had this year as the time they finally dropped down. Again, there is a bloodbath going on right now. Nobody is safe due to the small number of points between every team except the top 3. We wouldn’t be surprised if Metalac weaseled their way once again.

Super Liga players to keep an eye on this season

Prediction for Top Goalscorer

Ricardo Gomes

Partizan forward Ricardo Gomes has made an explosive entrance to the Super Liga after returning to his former club. Gomes currently occupies the very top spot in the top goalscorer’s standings with an incredible 21 goals from 21 appearances. Gomes can be easily attributed to Partizan’s success at the top of the table this season. With his current run of form, Gomes could be looking at maintaining the top spot in the goalscorer’s table for the remainder of the season.

Đorđe Jovanović

Đorđe Jovanović is the no.9 forward for Čukarički and has been making waves at his new club since signing in early 2021. From 28 appearances for the club, Jovanović has bagged 17 goals. 8 of those goals have come from this season alone. He sat in 2nd on the top goalscorers list but was sold to Maccabi Tel Aviv in January transfer window.

Aleksander Katai

To be honest, the majority of our Serbian Super Liga predictions didn’t have Katai as one of the leading goalscorers of the 2022 season. However, the seasoned veteran managed to surprise everyone with a cool 17 goals at this moment in time. Ricardo Gomes is an amazing strike, sure, but Katai is only 4 goals away. If he hits his stride during a series of easy fixtures, anything can happen. However, he’s certainly going to be second, as the worst-case scenario.
