- Newcastle secure season-long loan for Hall
- Deal includes an obligation to buy next summer
- Hall was Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year last season
Newcastle United have secured the services of defender Lewis Hall on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The agreement includes an obligation for the Magpies to finalise the transfer permanently next summer, dependent upon performance-related benchmarks.
Hall, an 18-year-old left-back who can also play in midfield, has been a devoted Newcastle United fan since childhood due to his father coming from the North East. He becomes the fifth addition to St. James’ Park during this summer transfer window and will wear the number 20 shirt.
Hall is a young player of huge potential
Hailed as one of Chelsea’s most highly regarded Academy graduates, Hall has already made a noteworthy impact with 12 senior appearances for the Blues. These appearances notably included starting in both of last season’s Premier League matches against Newcastle.
Hall’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed, as he was honoured with Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 season. This recognition comes merely two years after Tino Livramento, who has also joined Newcastle this summer, received the same accolade. His commendation was presented on the pitch at Stamford Bridge before a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in May.
Hall offers depth and another attacking option
Hall’s arrival adds greater depth to the squad and gives Eddie Howe’s side a more attacking option at left-back. Punters looking to bet on Newcastle games need to monitor whether this helps them to maintain the standards they set themselves last season and whether Hall’s attacking play on the left-hand side enables them to turn some of the home draws into wins. United drew six Premier League games at St James’ Park last season, including the matches against Leeds United and Leicester City, both of whom were relegated.
