The Bass and Svechnikov bags win

Svechnikov’s performance was a highlight, marking a significant upturn in his season’s statistics, with three goals in this game compared to his total of three in the previous 20. His final goal, a decisive strike into an empty net, sealed the win for Carolina. Jesper Fast also contributed notably, breaking his goal drought with two crucial scores, while Brent Burns’s skillful assists and Antti Raanta’s 18 saves further bolstered the team’s efforts. Raanta, freshly returned from the American Hockey League, showcased his capabilities and resilience in the game.

Montreal’s Cayden Primeau, despite making 29 saves, couldn’t hold off the Hurricanes’ onslaught. The Canadiens, who had been on a five-game point streak, found themselves struggling to maintain momentum, especially in the game’s early stages. Their defenseman Mike Matheson acknowledged the initial challenge but praised the team’s eventual recovery of form. Matheson and Josh Anderson were pivotal in keeping Montreal in contention, each contributing a goal.

The match wasn’t without its drama. Carolina’s Jack Drury had a goal disallowed due to goaltender interference, a decision that momentarily swung the game’s momentum. Sean Monahan of Montreal achieved a career milestone with his 500th NHL point, underscoring the game’s significance beyond the immediate result.

This game not only highlighted individual talents like Svechnikov and Aho but also showcased the depth and resilience of both teams. With such performances, the NHL continues to affirm its status as a league of high skill and intense competition.

NHL Futures Odds

As we are heading towards the halfway point of the season being played, it’s a great time to have a look at the outright odds offered for the NHL right now. The betting sites out there have a mix of markets to bet on, like winner of the conference’s, the Stanley Cup or a long list of individual awards. Down below you can find odds for the winner of the Stanley Cup, provided by DraftKings:

TeamOdds
New York Rangers+750
Colorado Avalanche+750
Boston Bruins+750
Vegas Golden Knights+800
Dallas Stars+1000
Toronto Maple Leafs+1200
Carolina Hurricanes+1200
Los Angeles Kings+1300
New Jersey Devils+1500
Florida Panthers+1500

With the recent positive signs from the Hurricanes, they climb up in the list of favourites to lift the Stanley Cup next spring. From the start of the season not much have changed for the team and they remain a threat to any team out there. This season the weakness has been found between the posts, and with Frederik Andersen out indefinitely that’s a question mark that might remain until the playoffs and beyond. Without a surge of form this puts the Hurricanes in a tough spot for what’s to come. However, if we can see Raanta or Kochetkov getting hot, a bet on the Hurricanes to go all the way might be worth a shot.

For the main favourites to win the Stanley Cup, the sportsbooks are all in agreement. It’s a four horse race between Rangers, Avalanche, Bruins and the Knights right now. Hard to argue against that as they are all having a great season underway, and there is a bunch of experience of deep runs in all of the squads. A fun outsider to hoist the cup right now is Vancouver Canucks priced at +2200, despite them leading the Western Conference.
